With calves being turned out to grass it is important to understand that calves under 6months cannot fully process grass the same as fully developed ruminants. Restricting grass intake and offering some dry forage such as hay or straw with meal can help slow down the rumen from the fast digesting grass and make the most of all the diets energy. Here we have some 4-5 month old dairy cross calves in a small paddock to restrict grass with hay adlib along with 3kg of our golden calf weaner.
