Something Spanish for Father’s Day this weekend ?
Why not go for a bottle of Izadi ‘Larrosa’ Rioja Negre Garnacha a special wine for a special person,
Tasting Notes & info -
In 1987, Gonzalo Antón, together close friends began a groundbreaking project in deepest Rioja Alavesa. The village of Villabuena de Alava where his family already grew grapes was chosen as the location for the innovative bodega which would focus on making fine wine. Gonzalo’s knowledge of hotels and restaurants soon made Izadi one of the most highly-regarded wines in gastronomic circles. At the same time, the introduction of new winemaking techniques and continuous improvements in quality set a house style over time.
The grapes for this Garnacha were sourced from old bush-trained vines planted in 1975. The vineyards sit at 700 metres above sea level meaning the grapes benefit from warm days followed by cool nights which allow perfectly paced slow ripening of the grapes. This allows the grapes to accumulate great intensity of flavour whilst retaining acidity. The soils are a combination of chalk, clay and pebbles. These old vines are low yielding, around 5 tonnes per hectare, but the fruit that they produce is extremely concentrated and of a very high quality.
Tasting Notes - Bright ruby in appearance, the nose is bursting with vibrant red fruit perfume and floral notes of lavender and wild herbs. On the palate, the oak is neatly integrated with a juicy fruit core, hints of allspice and chalky tannins.
