๐Ÿšจ We are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Banbury.

At around 6.50pm yesterday, officers were made aware from South Central Ambulance Service that an electric bike was involved in a collision with a pedestrian at the Ruscote Playground, Ruscote Recreational Park.

The rider of the electric bike fled the scene.

The victim, a young child, sustained serious injuries and required hospital treatment but has since been discharged.

An 18-year-old man and a 34-year-old man, both from Banbury, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with no insurance and failing to stop. They both remain in police custody at this time.

Any collision involving a young person is particularly harrowing, but I would like to thank those that came to the aid of victim at the time of the collision, including the South Central Ambulance Service.

We are carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this collision, with two men being arrested.

We would particularly like to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident as they may have vital information to assist in this investigation.

If you saw the electric bike prior or after to the collision, have dash-cam or CCTV footage, please come forward.

Anyone with any information, call 101 or report via our website quoting reference 43260298277.

Alternatively, you can report this anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Following a thorough investigation, a man has been sentenced for r**e in Banbury.

Sam Augustus Layne was found guilty by a majority jury of one count of r**e of an adult female following a four-day trial at Oxford Crown Court on 30 April 2026.

At the same court on Wednesday, Layne was sentenced to seven yearsโ€™ imprisonment, given an indefinite restraining order to the victim and given a sexual harm prevention order for fifteen years.

At around 19.20pm on 17 February 2023, Northamptonshire Police received a report from a friend of the victim, a woman aged in her twenties at the time of the offence, that she had been r**ed on 15 February.

Following a night out in Banbury on 14 February 2023, Layne, who knew the victim, had invited her back to his home address to continue socialising until the victim eventually fell asleep. Layne then proceeded to r**e her.

Layne was arrested on 18 February 2023 and subsequently charged on 26 April 2024.

Thank you to everyone who recently completed a Community Priorities survey. This is a public consultation that our Neighbourhood Policing Teams carry out every 3 months. In the survey, we ask you to vote for the three issues that you feel should form the teams' main focus (enforcement and prevention). Today we announce the results, including the locations you highlighted:

BICESTER TOWN (no change from previous survey results in January 2026):
โ— Retail Crime (Bicester town centre).
โ— Anti-Social Behaviour (Bicester town centre, including Garth Park, Launton Road, including the overbridge into Langford Village).โ€‹
โ— Drug dealing/misuse (Bicester town centre, including Garth Park, Launton Road, including the overbridge into Langford Village).โ€‹

BICESTER RURAL:
โ— Drug dealing/misuse (Ambrosden, Arncott, Graven Hill, Wendlebury and Kingsmereโ€‹).
โ— Burglary prevention/advice (Middleton Stoney, Somerton, Lower Heyford, Heyford Park, Steeple Aston, North Aston, Middle Aston, Duns Tew, Fritwell, Souldern, Ardley & Fewcott and Caulcott).
โ— Trailer/plant equipment Theft (rural locations generally).

KIDLINGTON:
โ— Drug dealing/misuse & Anti-Social Behaviour (Grovelands, Exeter Close Park and Park Hill Recreation Ground.).
โ— E-Scooters/ E- Bikes (whole of Kidlington โ€‹).
โ— Burglary crime prevention (Kidlington, Gosford and Yarnton).

These priorities will be in place until the end of August 2026, when we will update with the results of the operational activities carried out in response,

Yesterday, we carried out speeding checks on Hennef Way, Banbury between 6.30am and 8.30am in a 40mph zone.

During this short period:

โ— 97 drivers were found exceeding the speed limit
๐Ÿš— The highest recorded speed was 81mph
๐Ÿšš 2 large goods vehicles (LGVs) were also caught speeding

Speeding significantly increases the risk of serious collisions and puts everyone in danger. These figures highlight why our enforcement activity is so important.

Please slow down, stick to the speed limits, and help keep our roads safe for everyone.

Weโ€™ve recently posted from this account about the Bicester Rural Neighbourhood Policing Teamโ€™s Community Priorities survey, in which residents of the villages around Bicester (plus the Kingsmere, Graven Hill and Elmsbrook estates in Bicester town) have the opportunity to vote for what they think the next 3 Community Priorities should be, for the period June to August 2026. The link to their survey is here: https://orlo.uk/l60UW

This is a reminder that the Bicester Town Neighbourhood Policing Teamโ€™s own survey is also online and you can cast your votes at this link: https://orlo.uk/mPnIb

Both surveys will close at midnight on Sunday 31st May 2026, so youโ€™ve not got long to make your views count! We will publish the results here, plus also via Community Messaging (Thames Valley Alert) and on the โ€œYour Areaโ€ section of the main Thames Valley Police website.
