We have gimmers going to the breed sale at Thainstone Mart tomorrow (Fri 31st)

- Lleyn and Lleyn x Suffolk from good homebred ewes who last and raise good lambs from grass.
- born May 2025
- Last Heptavac P 28/02/26
- will make good breeding ewes with the Lleyn maternal traits.

All done for another year, that's quite a haul from 17 alpacas.

As always my thanks to Jamie and Sophie of ShearAlpacas for doing a fantastic job. Always so calm and professional, with them here the only stressful thing about shearing is figuring out what the weather is going to do!

Thankfully the forecasters were wrong again and the storm didn't arrive at 12.30 as predicted. It's just started raining slightly now and the temperature has dropped so I'll bed the boys up, shut all the big doors and leave them in over night just in case we do get this storm don't want anyone getting a chill.

"Windsor" is a seriously big and powerful alpaca as are alot of my boys . He could do Jamie and himself a very serious injury if he wasn't restrained securely and correctly............

He calmly walked out of the pen and laid there very calmly and "quietly" whilst Jamie sheared him.
Back in the pen a few minutes later and quite literally stuffing his face 🥰

Whites done, now we work through the colours light to dark......

"Baloo" is the lightest......not a happy boy vocally but actually a calm boy laying on the mat.

Please note alpacas are sheared in this manner for the safety of the alpaca and the Shearer......it literally takes Jamie 3 or 4 mins to completely shear an alpaca whilst Sophie puts the fleece in 3 separate bags....the blanket fleece, the neck fleece and then the fleece off their legs and head go in separate bags as the quality/length of each area differs and therefore so does it's uses.
Sophie also clips any toenails which need doing whilst Jamie finishes shearing and Jamie then will check all the alpacas teeth before they are up and back munching hay with their pals.
