Barnard Castle Brewing Co Welcome. We are a small (but perfectly formed) microbrewery located in the historic market town of Barnard Castle on the edge of the North Pennines. Durham.

We supply both cask and bottled beer to trade and the public in the local area and further afield. Barnard Castle Brewing Co. is a small, local brewery located in Teesdale, Co. We aim to produce Good British Beer made, wherever possible, with Good British Ingredients. Our inspiration is taken from the landscape, history, heritage and mythology of the area and we aim to produce ales and other beers

rooted in traditional British brewing styles, but with a nod to current trends and tastes; tastes meant to delight and not to challenge!

Our Story So Far...

The idea of a brewery in Barnard Castle was first discussed in 2017 following a conversation between George Gledhill (Chairman and driving force behind the brewery) and Kevin Carr (Head Brewer).

George had recently acquired some brewing plant from a major brewer and was looking for a Master Brewer. Step forward Kevin Carr, whose intimate knowledge of the brewing process gained from several years of owning a Home Brew business, was the perfect fit. And so plans were laid to establish the brewery.

With the inclusion of respected local retailer Michael Coverdale into the team, plans grew on apace and a brewery was finally installed (with a certain amount of irony) in Quaker’s Yard in the Newgate area of the town.

The first pint rolled off the production line in December 2017 and was quickly hailed as a success by the locals at the launch event in the local pub The Old Well Inn, who quickly requested a regular supply.
