So the UKās Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural affairs, Dame Angela Eagle has warned the UK to stock up on food and prepare for food shortages due to El NiƱo event.
The UK government have been very good at not supporting UK farmers and are heavily reliant on overseas producers. Along with the big supermarkets they have destroyed local producers.
Living in Canada, there is so much more farm gate produce, canning and preserving is a big thing here and stock piling is the norm.
I regularly buy from local producers along with a monthly Costco run for things I canāt get fresh. Being that we live 40 mins from the nearest town it helps keep down costs. I also grow some of our food which I preserve and can for the winter.
I wonder if the UK adopted more selling at the farm gate, people growing their own food and preserving more would be something that British people would do?
š« What kind of things do you stock
pile?
āļø What things do you buy in bulk?
š± What do you grow?
š What do you make that you wonāt ever buy?
