So the UK’s Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural affairs, Dame Angela Eagle has warned the UK to stock up on food and prepare for food shortages due to El NiƱo event.

The UK government have been very good at not supporting UK farmers and are heavily reliant on overseas producers. Along with the big supermarkets they have destroyed local producers.

Living in Canada, there is so much more farm gate produce, canning and preserving is a big thing here and stock piling is the norm.

I regularly buy from local producers along with a monthly Costco run for things I can’t get fresh. Being that we live 40 mins from the nearest town it helps keep down costs. I also grow some of our food which I preserve and can for the winter.

I wonder if the UK adopted more selling at the farm gate, people growing their own food and preserving more would be something that British people would do?

šŸ«™ What kind of things do you stock
pile?

āš–ļø What things do you buy in bulk?

🌱 What do you grow?

šŸž What do you make that you won’t ever buy?

My answers are in the comments ā¬‡ļø

Red tail hawk, catching the thermal. I love watching them, I don’t think this one had a mate this year.

Sourdough doesn’t have to be scientific, specific or precise, it’s only flour and water!

How often do you bake? Or are you interested in learning?

Do you baking to sell?

For me, I bake at least every other day. Mostly for family but I occasionally bake for others too.

Been a bit quiet on the social side as I’ve been busy form filling.

Hopefully this will be our next couple of years in Canada while we continue on our permanent residency journey, either that or we are sent packing back to old Blighty. Which I really isn’t fates plan.

I don’t think my kids would deal well in the educational system there now. With one excelling in academia, where in the UK her confidence plummeted, pushed and shoved to fit in a box, dyslexia pushed to the side while work was marked on spelling and grammar and the content of the work ignored, and unable to be herself, be a sheep and follow the crowd! She is never going to be an office worker, creativity is where she shines. The other following his passion for sport and mechanical engineering, with a strong interest in fishing and hunting, following on in his great grandad and grandad’s steps. UK schooling is definitely not for them.

We are building a life, it may not be much right now. But we can say we tried, we have worked hard for what we have. I will keep dreaming and hubby will find the reality 🧔 keep believing 🌈

Golden hour didn’t disappoint last night, the skies put on a real show. No photo edits needed 🧔

Golden horizons, glowing skies, and endless country roads these moments like these remind me to slow down and just take it all in, much to my husband’s annoyance. I was driving so he had no choice on when we stopped šŸ„“šŸ˜‚

Wolverine or wolf?

Can’t decide, legs look to long for a wolverine but back is roaches which would say not wolf.

What do you think?
