I've made a huge pan of broccoli and potato soup. I used broccoli left over from the donations at Community Fridge at the Cabin and from potatoesfrom our garden. I'm putting it into recyclable tubs that are microwaveable and taking it up to The Community Fridge today in time for lunch.

A big pan of marrow and apple chutney is bubbling away.

I help out The Community Fridge at The Cabin in Hoyland by using up items that individuals don't take. Yesterday there was a crate of enormous marrows and they asked me to take some and convert them into something more popular. The marrow I used here weighed 3kg!

Although the charity exists to divert food from waste, many of those who use it are those who are struggling with the cost of living. Things are going to get worse in the winter so hopefully a jar of chutney and the ready meals that I cook each week will make life a little easier for some people.

I'm pleased to announce that Eats Roots and Leaves is hosting a fundraising event for Barnsley Green Party on October 7th from 7pm. It's a Green Party Party!

Everyone welcome. £10/£2 unwaged for which you'll be fed (our lovely salads and dips obviously, plus pizza and dessert) and you'll have a free drink.

There won't be any high pressure words about the Green Party or anything; just a relaxed evening in convivial company.

If you'd like to come along, drop me a message or an email. Bring a friend.

I've been quiet for the last couple of months but I'm back now, albeit at a slower pace because chronic illness doesn't go away.

I'm still doing catering orders. The next few weekends are going to be pretty hectic, with a wedding, a party and other catering orders.

I've also started working with The Community Fridge in Hoyland, helping out by using leftover fruit and veg to make different foods to give away. This saves food from going to waste and helps those who are feeling the pinch as costs go up.

Today I used some leftover carrots, onions and coriander to make carrot and coriander soup. These will be available at The Community Fridge on Hall Street tomorrow and Saturday between 10am and 2pm.

With a heavy heart I have decided, for health reasons, to cancel the weekly deliveries with immediate effect.

I will continue to have stalls at some markets - I hope to be at Nether Edge market on the 12th June. I am also continuing to do catering orders. So if you're having a party or a wedding, or even just having friends around for a meal, please get in touch and I will be happy to devise a range of salads and dips especially for you.

My apologies but I'm having to take an extended break to the delivery service. There will be no deliveries for the month of April.

I have had a lot of health issues since my first bout of covid 2 years ago, and the problems have increased over recent months. I'm taking the next month off to give myself a break. I will let everyone know what's happening at the beginning of May.

I particularly apologise to both my regular customers and to those who have signed up recently and were looking forwards to having deliveries of salads.

It was Nether Edge market on Sunday. What a lovely day it was.

However I had made too much of the carrot cranberry and walnut salad - it is more of a summer salad really. So I fished the walnuts and cranberries out of the salad and made a cake with them. How's that for waste not, want not?

PS the cake is scrumptious.

It's Nether Edge Market tomorrow!!!

The prep has begun. This will be broccoli salad with a lemony tahini dressing. I add shallots and dried cranberries plus sesame seeds. It's lovely.

There'll also be some other of my most popular salads plus a new one - mild curried lentils and paneer. And a new dip - butternut squash and tahini. Oh my land, as my nice used to say! The other dip is minted pea hummus.

The hot soup is Thai butterbean and red pepper.

Come and say hello. Its midday until 4pm.

Come and say hello.
