All eyes on the sheep at Bath & West this week!

Midford Flare our Kerry shearling ewe was 1st in class before taking Female and Breed Champion! We also took 1st placed ewe lamb with our ewe lamb and second and third with our tup lambs. Our tup lamb then went on to take Reserve Male Champion too.

In the Exmoors our little team did well getting 2nd in both the tup lamb and ewe lamb classes. Both these lambs were part of the interbreed champion team of 6 lambs! Thanks to all who helped, stewarded or judged!

Looking forward to our first cattle show of the year, with The Royal Cornwall Show for a young bull this week!

The first calves from our stock bull Dendor 1 Ben have been flying out and growing well!

Ben had a short successful show season with us after serving the whole herd. He is sired by Solpoll 1 Vanquish who is breeding exceptionally well at Dendor and his dam is from the renowned Lilac Wine family!

Sired by Kinglee 1 The New One! Sheโ€™s from the breed changing Duchess line! Her dam is breeding fantastically for us, with her first calf selling for 3.6k at 12 months, sheโ€™s a big strong cow with a great udder!

These heifers are both April born, have not been pushed or pampered, and have been outwintered! Theyโ€™re ready made show heifers for the 2026 season and would be ideal breeding females to join any herdโ€ฆ

As I reflect on 2025, there are so many great memories that make this year stand outโ€ฆ

But none more so than my trip to Kansas for the World Hereford Conference and the Young Breeders Competition.

The first week was intense, to say the least! From carcass and stock judging to clipping and showmanship, the competition was incredibly diverse and thorough, pushing us in every aspect of stockmanship and knowledge.

I wasnโ€™t there alone, I was proud to be part of a team selected to represent the UK Hereford Cattle Society. I couldnโ€™t be prouder of how our team came together, communicated, and connected both within the group and with competitors from around the world. We performed exceptionally well, finishing as the highest-placed European team, but this trip was about so much more than results.

I went expecting to see a very different style of Hereford to what weโ€™re used to at home, but they certainly didnโ€™t disappoint. The cattle were more stout, deeper, with sweeping curves rather than the straighter lines we aim for in the UK. Show presentation was on another level entirely, and something I never got tired of watching. The masterclass from Sullivans was a real highlight for me.

The language used by the Americans to describe cattle, both in the ring and at pasture, was fascinating. Their fluency was incredible, it flowed like a song, and it gave me huge respect for how well the American Hereford Youth programme develops young people to represent both themselves and the industry. This was something that truly inspired me and my key learning from the trip!

Meeting like-minded people from around the world was, for me, the real highlight. Talking cattle, sharing experiences, and building friendships that now span the globe, along with some great memories made in ranches and barsโ€ฆ

After the competition, I headed south to Oklahoma and Texas on the post-tour. Visiting ranches that completely blew my mind! There were outstanding cattle, incredible setups, and show barns and wash bays that were worth the trip alone. We finished in Fort Worth, the world renowned Cowtown, before heading home.

A huge thank you to the UK Hereford Cattle Society for giving me the opportunity to be part of this trip, and to our sponsors for supporting us along the way. Thank you also to Mike and Emma for your passion and dedication with the team, to everyone who helped with training and development! Thanks to all our hosts in the US, The American association, and fellow competitors. Finally, thank you to Dad and Bob for holding the fort back home.

2026 promises to be a very different but equally exciting year. Thank you to everyone for your support throughout 2025! I look forward to catching up with you all in 2026.

There arenโ€™t many bulls of any breed with the show record of Normanton 1 Laertesโ€ฆ but most impressive and rare is Laertesโ€™ ability to breed champions too! National champions in Ireland and the UK and many sale topping prices!

This bull will without doubt down in the history books and with very few straws remaining this may be the last chance to buy your piece of historyโ€ฆ

A first time for us, down to Agrifest, normally itโ€™s so close to Agri Expo we have never made it, but what a great show, we will be back!

Super excited about this ET calf Midford 1 Downpour, from our most successful brood cow Gouldingpoll 1 Ravette 738, and sired by Nairobi.

This makes him a maternal sibling to:
Midford 1 Ravette 1st - Calf Show Champ
Midford 1 Crackerjack - Poll Show Junior and Res Male Champ

Heโ€™s also paternal sibling to 18,000gns Rempstone Alpha and ยฃ10,000 Worldwide!

Our first IVF calf, heโ€™s being reared on a 9 year old Traditional X Horned cow! Looking forward to seeing him growโ€ฆ and hopefully overtake her!
