⚠️ Warning: this video shows a calf being born ⚠️

A special moment to share from the farm.

We’re delighted to welcome our first calf of 2026. A strong bull calf, and a lovely Red Poll x British White cross. A brilliant start to the spring calving season and a sure sign that longer, warmer days are on their way.

Both mum and calf are doing well, and we’re looking forward to watching him grow.

This year, all calves will have names beginning with J… so we’d love your suggestions! 👇

🌼🐣 🐮Happy Easter from Knoll Farm! 🐮🐣🌼

Spring has arrived, bringing new life, fresh beginnings, and plenty to look forward to here at Knoll Farm. We’re especially excited to celebrate Easter with our newest addition, Oswald, now proudly part of the Somer Valley Farms herd.

Oswald has settled in wonderfully, and we’re hopeful that this time next year we’ll be welcoming his very first offspring, a true sign of the season’s promise and renewal.

Wishing you all a joyful Easter filled with sunshine, hope, and new beginnings. 🌷🐰

Behind every busy farm there’s often someone quietly making sure everything keeps running, and here that someone is Cath!

While many see the tractors, fields and cattle, Cath is the one in the background, from helping move the cattle and weighing them, to knowing so many of them by name, she’s always there making sure the farm keeps ticking along.

More than that, Cath is a truly special mum and grandmother whose family always comes first. Her care, dedication and quiet strength are at the heart of both the farm and the family.

This Mother’s Day we’re celebrating everything she does. The work you see and the work you don’t!

Thank you, Cath, for all that you give every single day 💐

🙌 From all of us down on the farm, THANK YOU for an incredible 2025!

Our highlights:

🐮 We’ve continued to care for our beautiful British White and Red Poll cattle at Knoll Farm — preserving rare native breeds and growing our regenerative farming practices. We've won some trophies again this year for our Red Polls.

🥩 Our on-farm butcher’s shop has been bustling, serving up grass-fed beef, pies, charcuterie, scotch eggs and more. It’s been brilliant to see so many familiar (and new!) faces through the door - we were South-West Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2025!

🍻 Somer Valley Brewing is officially up and running onsite - using our home grown barley to produce fresh, locally brewed beer straight from our farm to your hand.

🚜 In the community
Whether you've visited us at the farm, met us at local markets or enjoyed a pint at The Welly. It’s been a joy meeting you, sharing stories, and spreading the love of local food — thank you for backing local farming and local food.

🙏 Thank you for every visit, every share, every chat at market and every message on our socials — we couldn’t do this without you.

🌟 Here’s to 2026 — more farm life, more community, more delicious local produce!

At Somervalley Farms it’s Christmas again,
Lights on the barns and mud on the men.

Red Poll cattle look proud and wide,
British Whites chewing like they’ve nothing to hide.

The butcher’s busy, the brewery too,
There’s meat to carve and beer to brew.

Mark’s in his wellies, calm as can be,
Running the farm like a Christmas decree.

So raise a glass and pass the roast,
To good food, good beer, and the farmer we toast 🍻

Merry Christmas from Somervalley Farms,
Where the work is hard… but the cheer has charms!

This little one hasn’t got a name yet — it’ll start with an I. Suggestions welcome!

🐂✨ A brilliant day at the regional Red Poll Cattle Society awards presentation!

We’re proud to share that the Somer Valley herd had some winners 🏆 – a real honour to be recognised among such dedicated breeders of this wonderful heritage breed. The Red Poll’s deep history and value to sustainable farming is something we’re proud to be part of.

A huge thank you to Cools Farm Organic for the warm hospitality and insightful farm walk – it was great to see your approach in action and to celebrate the resilience and importance of the Red Poll together.

Here’s to the future of this fantastic breed! ❤️🐂

🚜🌾 Farming never really slows down—there’s always another job waiting. Fences to fix, animals to feed, fields to check. The list never ends.

But it’s easy to pause for a moment when you’re surrounded by the beauty of the countryside. 🌳 Taking a quiet moment to breathe in the fresh air, watch the sun move across the sky, and just be.

Because sometimes slowing down is just as important as getting the work done.
