As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a huge thank you to every volunteer who makes Bath Street Kitchen's homeless outreach possible. We simply couldn't do it without you 🤗

From those who give up their time to prepare and cook meals, to the volunteers who help serve, support, listen and connect with people experiencing homelessness - your kindness and commitment make a real difference every week!

Volunteers' Week is a UK-wide celebration of the incredible contribution that all volunteers make to communities across the country and the amazing people who make volunteer services possible - thank you for your time, your energy and your generosity 😍

Tonight’s team Leanne Gemma Suzy Elena and Rachel on probably one of the wettest runs ever - so loving our new branded coats! The outreach team saw in excess of 50 street friends most men and only 5 women.

Tonight, we met a woman in her 30s who had recently been discharged from hospital following a drug overdose. She was cold, wet, vulnerable, and at risk of experiencing another overdose. We were able to provide her with warm clothing, hot drinks, and food, but we also gave her Naloxone, a life-saving emergency medication that can rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Our team carries Naloxone at all times, alongside the emergency services. By leaving her with this medication, there is a chance that, should she overdose again, a fellow rough sleeper, friend, or member of the public could administer it and potentially save her life.

Sometimes, a small intervention can make the difference between life and death. It's important to remember that drug addiction is often linked to deeper issues. Many women who struggle with substance misuse have experienced trauma, including domestic abuse, sexual violence, childhood neglect, poor mental health, homelessness, or the loss of family relationships.

Thank you so much for the 5 pack of men’s t-shirts from our Amazon gift list. They arrived at the weekend, but without a gift message so we can’t thank you personally.

This week we received a wonderful donation of £260 from Trinity Church in Radstock. During May Strawberry Sundaes and Banana Splits were sold at weekly coffee mornings and a raffle was also held. We really appreciate being the recipient of this fundraising which will go towards the cost of running our service.

Wow, to state the obvious it’s hot! Cold and hot weather extremes are equally dangerous so if you’re heading into Bath today and can, please take an extra drink or pick up something cold when you’re there and offer to someone who is homeless or vulnerably housed. Your kindness means everything.

What a difference a week makes with English weather. Last week we saw people who were wet and cold and this week it was still 30 degrees at just before 18:00 when we started our outreach at the Cattle Market bus stop.

Our team of Coleen, Juanita, Michelle, Tricia and Nicola were there with our trolleys providing much needed food, drink and essentials - including sun tan lotion sachets and extra water.

There were 9 people at the bus stop and then pockets of people throughout Bath, totalling just under 50 by the end of our walk. A few just wanted cold drinks but the majority wanted a bit of everything that we had.

Mark was our meat cook tonight and his pulled pork, potatoes or rice and other roasted veg is always a firm favourite. Several friends came back after eating to tell us how fantastic it was. Tricia was our veggie cook and her vegetarian lasagne looked stunning and was enjoyed by all who chose this option. Nicola made the cakes tonight, giving a choice of chocolate with butter icing with a flake topping (well it is bank holiday so double chocolate is allowed) or lemon drizzle.

Even in this heat coffee and hot chocolate were popular including the somewhat melted flakes! Our men’s clothing was appreciated, especially by one man who told us he only had the clothes he was wearing.

What’s really humbling is how grateful our old and new friends are to see us. We had some lovely chats and lost count of how many times people complimented us and told us how appreciated we are. This was in stark contrast to the last lady we spoke to, who shared that until we stopped she’d felt invisible and her only interaction today had been some unpleasant comments from a passer-by.

Thanks as always to the BSK team who made tonight happen and to everyone who supports us.

Not all heroes wear uniforms - some wear aprons & make the food for our outreach team on a rainy Monday evening!

Behind every hot meal at Bath Street Kitchen is a team of volunteers chopping, stirring & serving up delicious meal portions - to remind people sleeping rough that they haven’t been forgotten. ❤️

This is more than food. It’s dignity. Community. Hope.

It was a cold, damp and long night on outreach — but a good one! Last night our team of volunteers distributed around 28 meals at the start of the evening at the bus stop at Cattle Market car park, with around 40 meals going out throughout the night alongside over 40 slices of cake, hot and cold drinks, clothing, and other essentials. We also met lots of new faces and were grateful for the kindness of a member of the public who helped us with the trolleys — which definitely have a mind of their own sometimes! 😂

As Mental Health Awareness Week came to a close, this year’s theme was Action...and action matters! According to Crisis UK, 45% of people experiencing homelessness have been diagnosed with a mental health issue — rising to 8 in 10 people sleeping rough.

Something as simple as meeting people where they are with warm food, conversation, kindness and consistency can help reduce the exhausting daily struggle of surviving without security or support. No one should have to battle hunger, isolation and poor mental health alone.

Thank you to every volunteer who gave up their evening and a big thank you to everyone who donates, shares our posts, or supports us quietly behind the scenes. You are part of this too. 💙
