After 44 incredible years serving the town, the time has come for our family to close the doors of our Bathgate butcher’s shop.
This has not been an easy decision. Since our Father Davie and Mother Kathleen took this business over from Wullie Hamilton in 1982 it has been more than just a shop to us, it has been part of our family’s and extended family’s life with 20 of us at one point or another working in or for the shop alongside an incredible team of people. The loyalty of our staff has been paramount to our success, many of whom spent their entire careers with us. It was their knowledge, warmth and humour that kept our customers coming back over the last four decades.
We feel that we have been part of our customers lives as well.
We’ve watched families grow, saw the wains who got a slice of chopped pork grow up and in time come shopping with their own family . We’ve served customers who became friends, and shared in countless everyday moments that meant so much more than us simply serving meats for every occasion
We have been in discussions for some time with our friends
Hugh Black & Sons who we’ve known for over 30 years and who we respect greatly. The reality is that changing times and reduced footfall in the town now make it difficult for two independent butcher shops to continue side by side.
To allow our businesses continued success Hugh and his team will move from their George Street shop, into our premises in North Bridge Street and continue to serve the good people of Bathgate as we take this moment to step away.
Whilst our Bathgate chapter is closing this is by no means the end for our family business. We are proud to continue serving customers from our shop in Blackburn , as well as through our new Hamilton & Brown store in Livingston Designer Outlet. This represents an exciting new direction for us while keeping the same values, passion and exceptional quality of meat from Gavin Scott in Linlithgow that have always been at the heart of what we do.
To every customer who supported us over the last 44 years — thank you so very much. Thank you for shopping local, thank you for your loyalty, your conversations, your kindness, the laughter and for allowing our family to be part of your lives for so long. Your support has meant everything to us.
Whilst this chapter is coming to an end, we leave with enormous pride, gratitude, and many wonderful memories.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for 44 years.x
David and Kirstie
