Sunday food + wine pairing 🍷

This beautiful Burgundy found its way into our home cellar as part of Paul’s birthday selection.

It’s a Pinot Noir from the Nuits-Saint-Georges area. A 2017 vintage and drinking beautifully.
Silky, soft and elegant. It’s a stunner from one of my favourite producers.

Today we enjoyed it with a sausage casserole (thanks to Tom Kerridge for the recipe 😂)
The tomato, paprika sauce with plenty of Chorizo paired magnificently with the wine.
The combination really highlighted the cherry fruit flavours in the wine.

I think Pinot Noir is a great choice for most occasions, light enough but not too fruity.

This particular wine is a bit of a splurge ££ but that’s what happens when I let Paul choose 😂

Most wine countries grow Pinot Noir and it’s really varied, from Smokey to fruity and all sorts in between.
The best does come from France (in my opinion!) but I’m happy to try all the others for you just to check 😅

Happy Sunday, Sarah x

From grapes you won’t know but will fall in love with.

The lineup …waldschuetz Sparkling.
Stunning, dry and perfect for impressing your guests.

Gruner Veltliner, a classic still wine.

for their regional Vienna blend.

an amazing Riesling. Dry and mineral.

Rose because you will keep asking me for this wine all summer!

an amazing Zweigelt. We are in reds for this fruity summer hit.

Blaufrankisch is the grape and this is a serious wine. 🍷

🥳 We are just 9 days away from the BIG Spring Tasting!

The BIG tastings are my favourite wine events.

🥰That’s because I have the best customers who love to try new things and will chat to each other about the wines they recommend.

I invite some of my favourite suppliers to come in and show off their wines for you.
You get to wander around tasting wines and chatting to the people who really know those wines, the makers and the stories that go with them.🍷🥂

Don’t worry if you don’t know much about wine, or even what you like.
We have so many wines, I guarantee you will find a few that you like.

There’s no pressure to buy, but we do have on-the-night discounts for you to take advantage of.

I then order the wines ordered in, and you can come and chat to me when you pick them up.

If you don’t order on the night a wine you love, and nobody else does, you might miss out, so it’s always good to order at least one bottle of your favourite just in case!

Doors open at 6pm, you register your arrival with Paul. 📝
Collect a glass. 🍷
Choose your starting wine.✅
Off you go!!🤸‍♀️

There will be a large selection of wines of all styles for you to taste, with an emphasis on summer sippers.⛱️🌤️

We gently ease you from the premises at 9pm.

Jake makes the nibbles, which are always delicious.🍡🍤🫔

I do limit the number of tickets; squished in wine tastings are the ones I personally avoid, so why would I do it to you?! Please do book in to avoid disappointment.

Book lovers 🙌🥳

We made it through the last book 😅

So we move onto a book that came highly recommended. A bit of a change up for this one because we couldn’t stomach another challenging read!

I’m genuinely excited to start this one today.

Head over to Ian for your copy.

I’ll see you in May for book chat but probably before because we just like to share our musings.

So many Riesling in one day!! 😅

This was a wonderful experience for a wine nerd like me.
I haven’t been to the Alsace region since 2019 so that’s before the Cellar existed.
Now I taste wine and think about it differently (more goes in the bucket!)

We started at Trimbach who are a family operation of more than 10 generations.
Their wines are world famous but usually made be laid down for long periods rather than enjoyed in this moment.

Then on to Bott Geyl who are part of our very first wine trip and we purchased some of our wedding wine from them years ago.
Another family of wine makers for many generations.
More wines that are drinking well now. Softer and more rounded. Bargains are found here.

Finally to Sophie. First generation wine making!
Julian and Sophie are a husband and wife team making some more traditional styles under Julian’s name but the star for me are the more adventurous wines in Sophie’s name.
In a French wine making region where they have been doing the same thing in the same way for years it’s exciting to see someone produce something that’s pushing boundaries.

Most importantly they are stunning wines.
We’ve had some in the shop for a while and they are already gaining some fans.

Big thanks to Paul who drove me around tasting wine on his birthday 🥂🥳

If you’re jealous then you need to book in for our Alsace evening on the 23rd April.
Meet the winemaker and taste their wines.
Regional food by Jake.

Short break to celebrate Paul 🥂🥳

Lots of wandering the rues of Strasbourg, enjoying the sunshine and tasting wine.

Paul is enjoying lots of Gewürztraminer and I’m tucking into Riesling.

We’ve been here before but for just one night and I have to declare that Strasbourg might just be my new favourite French city.

See you on Thursday

March 2026 🥰

It has been a lovely month with some great shop things, lots of chatting, tasting, munching and music.

I’m still on a high after The Fat Duck 🥰
The rest of March was wonderful fun. With time spent being social with great people.

Happy Birthday to Paul ###

What an amazing experience.
Truly epic meal where every dish tells a story.
Beautifully paired wines.

It’s such a sensory experience that it’s hard to tell you about it in detail but we loved every minute. 🥰
