🍯 Our honey is unpasteurised, unhomogenised and raw. It’s as pure as can be and we take the fewest number of steps to get it from the hive to the jar as possible.
Extracting is part one of our jarring process and we would like to show you how it’s done so you know exactly what you’re consuming when you buy our liquid gold!
1. We take each frame out of the hive box (super) one at a time and uncap the honeycomb. The bees receive the maximum amount of comb back to clean up and work on again. The wax comb is the hardest part for the bees to make as it takes a lot of energy for them to produce, so giving it back is a great help to them. This is also why we don’t believe in selling cut comb or placing chunks of comb in honey jars - it looks pretty but is wasteful.
2. Each uncapped frame is put into the electric extractor, where the frames are spun at high speed. Centrifugal force flings the honey from the frames out to the side of the tank where it runs down to the bottom.
3. The honey is passed through a wide sieved cone into a bucket.
4. The bucket is then poured through a finer sieve into a settling tank where the honey is set to rest for a minimum of four days to allow the air bubbles to rise to the top.
5. The honey is poured from the settling tank straight into the jars and then they are labelled! No pasteurisation and no excessive filtering through muslin cloths which remove precious propolis and pollen which contain many health benefits.
It’s as simple and as natural as can be!
