The Big Community Switch On is officially underway!

As part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, we’re spending the summer shining a spotlight on the incredible role our pubs play in communities across the UK. From supporting local causes and charities to bringing people together for life’s big moments and everyday occasions, our pubs are proud to be at the heart of their communities.

We kicked things off today at Brewpoint, where colleagues from our Central Support Teams got involved in fundraising activities in support of Teenage Cancer Trust. With cycling challenges, bake sales and plenty of determination on display, colleagues collectively cycled 243 miles and raised several hundred pounds to get the campaign off to a fantastic start 🚴🍰

Over the coming months, our pubs will be supporting causes that matter to their local communities, and we’ll be sharing their activities, fundraising efforts and success stories along the way.

Today, 20th May, is World Bee Day. With bees, insects and many other insects sadly declining in abundance, World Bee Day is an opportunity to highlight all that bees add to our natural environment and support the sustainable development of beekeeping.

Here at Wells & Co., we’re certainly doing our bit. Four years into our beekeeping journey, our head beekeeper, Louise Wells remains as dedicated as ever to ensuring the inhabitants of our Brewpoint hives have everything they need to live happy lives and produce plenty of their award-winning honey. Pick up a jar from the Brewpoint Taproom today and join us in celebrating all things bees.

Fresh honey in the Brewpoint shop! Our beekeepers have blessed us with a re-up of Bedfordshire’s finest, just in time for all you local hayfever sufferers to stock up again. If you’d like to buy a jar then don’t delay, it’s already selling fast…

Our Head of Safety, Steve Hodge, seen here excelling himself at the recent London Marathon. After a hard stint of dedicated training Steve made it round in an impressive time of 4.08, and on his birthday no less. In the process he’s raised around £1500 for Kelly’s Cause, providers of mental health training and services in the hospitality industry, a total we’re delighted to add to via a donation from our Charlie’s Charity fund.

Today, April 22nd, is Earth Day. An annual event celebrated worldwide, Earth Day serves as a reminder to consider the human impact on the planet and to demonstrate support for environmental protection, two themes we’ve really taken to heart here at Wells & Co.

Wednesday was a big night on the sustainability front for us here at Wells & Co. We headed down to London for the 2026 Publican Awards, where we were finalists in the Most Sustainable Pub category. Sadly we didn’t claim the trophy – a big shout out to our good friends at St. Austell’s in Cornwall for a thoroughly deserved win – but we’re really proud to have made the final on our first attempt and have already received some invaluable feedback that’ll help us aim for the top step next year. The work begins now…

A big shout out to our colleague Connor Inkersole this week for his excellent performance in the recent Cambridge Half Marathon, hitting both a new personal best and an impressive fundraising total for a great cause.

Connor explains: “I chose to run the Cambridge Half Marathon in support of the Addenbrookes Charitable Trust, a cause close to my heart. The money raised will aid innovation in patient care within the hospital as well as funding further research. The event went very well on a personal level, managing to achieve a new PB of 1:39:36 which was just under my goal of 1:40!”

We’ve added to Connor’s fundraising sum via a donation from our Charlie’s Charity fund; perhaps he’ll be aiming for that elusive 1:30 benchmark next year? Amazing work, mate!
