And following on from our silver 2025 madeleine angevine, a little bit about our bronze winning Redshank!
Our Redshank is made with rondo grapes imported from just across the river in Cornwall. The idea if this wine was borne out of a happy mistake when we first worked with this variety in 2023. Trying to make blush rosé, we had no idea how intense the colour and flavour of these grapes would be. As such we made an "accidental" red which proved very popular.
Fast forward a couple of years, and having been repeatedly asked for this wine again, we decided to give it another go. However, this time the plan was to make it a bit more grown up. A bit more tannin and a bit more alcohol to make it nicely balanced.
So that's what we made and even before the award, we were very happy with it! Serve it lightly chilled to appreciate the vibrant fruitiness!
Below are a few notes from the judges:
A bright and thoughtfully styled lighter red, designed to be enjoyed with a slight chill and showing plenty of aromatic charm. The nose is expressive and inviting, with notes of sour cherry, wild strawberry and delicate violet, alongside subtle savoury nuances that add complexity and interest. The overall impression is fresh and attractive, with a clear sense of style and purpose.
On the palate, the wine is soft, vibrant and highly approachable, with lively acidity and gentle tannins contributing to a refreshing, easy-drinking character. The lighter body and delicate structure are well suited to the intended style, favouring elegance and immediacy over power and weight.
A Bronze medal red with attractive aromatics, fresh red fruit and a clear stylistic identity. Elegant and highly drinkable, with additional fruit depth and persistence helping to bring even greater harmony and completeness.
