Henley Royal Regatta two weeks today

The tradition, the flare, the greetings of old friends, the making of new friends, the Remenham roar, the pops of corks, crews past & present, Bucks vs Berks, ragged blazers, Pimms on tap, boaters and a whole heap of fun.

I bought these place mats in a Henley charity shop several years ago and I love them. I imagine they’re homemade with individual pictures and captions for each. It represents to me what Regatta means to many and that’s a whole lot. Years of traditions and ceremony for many and a new step into an event steeped in history for others.

I’m delighted to be back in town doing picnics again this year - thanks for your orders. Orders close at the end of the week so roll up, roll up and grab a scrummy fresh, locally sourced picnic!

I’ve always been a little embarrassed of my handwriting and had lovely folks do my A board in the past but I suppose this one is very genuinely me and in turn my lovely Larder!

Giveaway Cream Tea time 🍓🫖

I have long wanted to offer a postal cream tea.

A proper one. With proper fluffy homemade scones, real strawberry jam not in plastic portions, the good Devon clotted cream and perfect tea for a proper brew.

What could be more celebratory or cheering?

And so after a whole load of thought and time - too much time I’d say 😂 - I want to give it a whirl.

And I need three awesome folks to trial a cream tea in the post for two.
This can be locally delivered in Bideford, collected or sent nationwide.

All I need are some folks willing to give feedback, a review and maybe a picture if they can.

But you have to be in it to win it.

Summer grilling

I have just been on a little break away with my brother & sister and their families in the beautiful Ibiza sunshine.

You will not be surprised to hear I suspect, that talking about and thinking about food was high on my list of priorities.
Take me to a foreign supermarket? I’m happy for hours!

There was a lot of anchovy nibbling, chorizo, manchego, tortilla, palmier biscuits and of course many a glass of Rioja.

Then of course BBQ. Away or at home this joyful Summer way of cooking is firmly in season and I love it.

I couldn’t resist taking some rubs & salts from the Larder along with me. My brother Theo pictured here handling the Flintstones style steak 👌

Over the years the Larder has used all kinds of boxes for all kinds of picnics and gifting.

The vessel is an important part.

For this years picnics I’ll be using these I think.
They are practices, look nice, show you what’s inside, card is recyclable and I like the sliding tray action.

Happy Devon Day

Also known as St Petroc’s Day - the patron saint of Devon & Cornwall but celebrated on different days.

There are many things I am learning about Devon every day of my new life based here.
Something I learnt today is that the Devon flag was only conceived in 2003 after a competition by the BBC.
Fun facts!

So how will you celebrate Devon day?
A cream tea perhaps - cream first of course!

Or try out one of the many other delicacies produced here from cheese to chocolate and preserves to pickles and sardines to salty crackers.

Or maybe enjoy another Devon characteristic - rain ☔️ plenty of that today 😂
