Biggarburn flock of Coloured Shetland Sheep. Biggar, South Lanarkshire, Scotland.

We are having a sizeable reduction of the flock this autumn, however owing to various other commitments we can only enter and attend the Shetland Sheep Society Carlisle Sale - where we have three entered (more on them to come soon!).
We have a range of colours and ages available of both sexes, so please get in touch if you're looking for something special. All sheep available are/can be SSS registered, and the rams (shearling upwards) will make very useful additions to commercial flocks for putting to hoggs. 💪💪

I had to step away from this role with the Shetland Sheep Society back in May, mostly owing to work commitments. The SSS are now looking for someone to take it on - voluntary role, lots to do, and plenty of up-coming events that need good coverage to support our membership.
If you’re interested then apply to [email protected].

The Society has an exciting opportunity - details below.
Closing date 10th September.

We were fortunate enough to be out at a show this past weekend and while it was an amazing day for our flock, and one we were grateful to enjoy, we are finding it difficult to celebrate without thinking of so many others across the country facing incredibly hard times.

The bluetongue epidemic is having a devastating impact on so many livestock breeders and farming families. Many people are dealing with uncertainty, financial pressure, and more than that - the emotional strain of seeing years of hard work and breeding at severe risk.

It doesn’t feel right to simply post about successes when so many in our community are struggling. We know how fortunate we are to have been able to get out to a show, and we don’t take that for granted.

Our thoughts are with everyone currently affected by bluetongue. We hope that those facing difficult days know they are not alone, and that the whole agricultural community is thinking of them.

Farming is a wonderfully supportive community in tough times. We send our very best wishes to everyone navigating the challenges of this horrendous outbreak, and hope for better days ahead.

We have had a busy weekend, the perfect recovering from four days in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🤣
A trip to Border Union was extremely successful with two of our gimmers topping each section. Thanks to Lesley for the photo. A lovely show with a great atmosphere around the ring - thanks to everyone for their help in the day!
Next up was sorting out lambs - there’s a fair selection this year! Not all will make the grade, but we will have some available to the right homes. White, black, moorit, grey katmoget, fawn katmoget - lambs, gimmers, rams, and ewes (yes, it’s time for a cut down again!). Drop us a message if you are interested and we will see what we can do for you. 🐑🐑🐏🐏
Today the ewes and lambs went on to fresh grazing (apologies to those in the south seeing this) which should set them up for weaning time - immensely important time for the correct condition on them all 💪🏼💪🏼

Super day at Great Yorkshire Show with each one of our team of our team taking home a prize card.
6th & 8th with the gimmers, a fantastic 2nd with our moorit ewe lamb, and a really great win in the ram class with her twin brother. 🏆🥇
Can’t complain when entries are in the teens in every class 👌🏼
Well done to all the winners and good luck in the interbreed, the pairs, and the groups!

The show ring is certainly great for awareness of any breed, 100%.Farmers Guardian
