How wonderful would it be to walk through a field of sunflowers...we are going to find out. I have every faith my ladies will not disappoint...

Eight weeks ago, Helen introduced our Mid Tartraven landrace sunflower project.

Since then, they've experienced a pretty good test of resilience – two heatwaves with a spell of more typical Scottish weather in between. 🌻

Despite the changing conditions, the sunflowers are thriving.

By selecting seed from the strongest plants year after year, we're gradually developing sunflowers that are better adapted to life here at Mid Tartraven Farm – from Scottish soils and shifting weather to the relentless west winds that sweep across our fields.

It's still early days, but every growing season teaches us something. Watching these plants flourish through such varied conditions is exactly what landrace growing is all about: building resilience, one generation at a time.

While we seem to currently be between heat waves, here's a little reminder of the sunshine we were enjoying not so long ago. β˜€οΈ

Whatever the weather, there's still plenty to do at Mid Tartraven. From looking after the greenhouse to tending the fields, summer is one of our busiest times of year.

If you're passing by, come and see what we're growing. 🌿
