We’ve thought this for a long time.
Birkenhead waterfront has one of the most underused views in the UK.
That view across the Mersey to the Liverpool skyline is world-class — but we still haven’t fully grasped what the Wirral side could become.
What if Birkenhead had something genuinely bold?
A landmark building, cultural attraction or architectural statement as ambitious and controversial as Will Alsop’s proposed Cloud building could have been for Liverpool’s Pier Head.
Then imagine that linked with a regenerated Woodside, Argyle Street, Hamilton Square, a modern leisure tram running along the riverfront towards New Brighton, and even a reimagined New Brighton Tower for the 21st century.
Not just tidy regeneration.
Something with confidence.
Something that creates jobs, attracts visitors, supports independents, grows hospitality, and helps position Wirral as a proper leisure, culture and enterprise peninsula.
