The Devonshire
Soho London 📍

Had a great afternoon at The Devonshire. The food was spot on, the service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was brilliant from start to finish.
There’s just something about the energy at The Devonshire that makes you want to stay a little longer. Busy, lively, and full of character without feeling over the top.

The Guinness was bang on, and every dish delivered:
• Smoked Salmon on Soda Bread
• Scallops, Bacon & Malt Vinegar
• Lamb Cutlets
• Iberico Pork Chop
• Peas, Onions and Bacon
• Sticky Toffee Pudding

If it’s not already on your London food list, add it. Trust me, it’s well worth the trip.

What’s Cooking?
Royal Albert Docks 📍

We recently visited What’s Cooking?, a Tex Mex bar and grill located on Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock. The menu is packed with American Southwest and Mexican comfort food classics, so we knew we were in for a treat.

To start, we ordered the famous House Nachos with a side of guacamole. These nachos are renowned around the Albert Dock for their enormous, family sized portions, and they absolutely lived up to the hype. There was only three of us, and despite our best efforts, we struggled to finish them but somehow managed! The extra guacamole was definitely worth adding.

By the time the nachos were gone, we were already feeling full, but we couldn’t leave without trying our mains. We ordered the Footlong Hot Dogs, served with fries and coleslaw, and the Piggy Smalls Burger with fries. Everything was generously portioned. In fact, the nachos had defeated us so thoroughly that we ended up taking some leftovers home! 😂

Overall, it was a really enjoyable visit with great food, huge portions, and a fun atmosphere. If you’re visiting the Albert Dock and arrive hungry, What’s Cooking is definitely worth a stop.

Six by Nico
Colmore Row, Birmingham 📍

Tried the Seoul tasting menu at Six by Nico and honestly had such a good experience. The 6 course menu is £49, with optional snack add ons and wine or cocktail pairings. I went for the cocktail pairing personally found it a little too sweet and a bit much for me, but that’s just my opinion. The menu is running from 20th April to 31st May.

Course 1 – Cho Yoonsun’s Hand Cut Noodles
Chicken consommé, pork dumpling, crispy wheat noodles.
Course 2 – Bibimbap
Slow cooked truffled egg yolk, gochujang, golden enoki mushroom, house pickles.
Course 3 – Bindaetteok from Gwangjang Market
Mung bean pancake, smoked vinegar greens, shallot salad.
Course 4 – From Nico, For Seoul
Black po***ck, Seoul Korean sauce, mussel & clam, wilted greens, ssamjang.
Course 5 – Korean Fried Chicken
Crispy chicken, red pepper, spring onion, mooli salad namul, Korean barbecue sauce.
Course 6 – Doughnuts & Matcha
Brioche doughnut, matcha & white chocolate crémeux, sour cherry.

Every dish was delicious and surprisingly filling I was absolutely stuffed by the end. A really enjoyable menu with lots of flavour throughout and the service was great.

Maneki Ramen .ramen
Jewellery Quarter 📍

A Tokyo inspired ramen shop serving modern takes on Japanese noodle bowls and snacks.

We started with the pork dumplings and karaage chicken, both full of flavour and a great way to begin the meal. For mains, we ordered the yaki soba noodles one with chicken and one with duck along with smaller plates of katsu curry and chicken yaki soba for the kids which was the right portion size.

Everything was delicious, packed with flavour, and really satisfying. Topping off with Lucky Cat Lager, which paired perfectly with the food.

Paprika Grill
Selly Oak 📍

Paprika, a Persian and Middle Eastern restaurant on Raddlebarn Road in Selly Oak, it is a fantastic spot for authentic charcoal grilled cuisine. Known for its warm, cosy atmosphere and welcoming service, it offers a dining experience that feels both relaxed and memorable.

The food was excellent, with generous portion sizes that were more than satisfying. We ordered the Meat Feast and the Sea Bass Skewers, both of which were cooked beautifully over wood burned charcoal, giving them a rich, smoky flavour. Every dish tasted fresh, well seasoned, and full of authenticity.

If you’re looking for hearty portions, quality grilled food, and a comfortable setting, Paprika is definitely worth a visit.

Finally made it to Twist & Bake on Bristol Road in Selly Oak and I get the hype now!

Birmingham’s first spot dedicated to chimney cakes (Kürtőskalács) warm, caramelised, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside…unreal!

We went all in with the Oreo Dream and Biscoff Bliss chimney cones and no regrets. Made fresh right in front of you, which makes it even better.

You can also grab chimney cakes on their own (no ice cream), or go for savoury chimney rolls if you’re not big on sweets but you won’t be disappointed. Small outdoor seating available.

The Milk Cake Man
Alfred Works 📍

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, The Milk Cake Man at Alfred Works is an absolute must visit. The milk cakes are genuinely to die for incredibly soft, light, and packed with flavour.

We tried the Nutella, Lotus, and Pistachio, and each one was better than the last.

And it didn’t stop there 👀 the Belgian chocolate and pistachio kunafa strawberries were next level.

Highly recommend if you’re craving something decadent and unique.

Soi 1268
Stirchley 📍

A slice of Thailand in Birmingham and it seriously delivered.

We kicked things off with small plates the Thai Fried Chicken and King Prawn Toast both absolute standouts. Crispy, packed with flavour, and the perfect start.
For mains, we went all in on the Thai Fried Chicken and Pork Pa Lo Rice bowls and “stuffed” doesn’t even begin to cover it. Washed it all down with a Steady Rolling Man from Deya! Top tier food big flavours, great vibes, and portions that don’t mess about. Already planning the return trip.
