Day 3 of artichoke festival with sister drinking artichoke beer. Had artichoke lasagne for breakfast. Artichokes contain a lot of inulun- veg fibre. Constipation has not been a problem

At the artichoke festival in ladispoli. A seaside town an hour from Rome , this is the 73rd year of the 3 day artichoke festival. A special artichoke is in season right now- without a hairy choke. I’m trying to organise an artichoke festival for london next spring to introduce the British to the pleasures and health giving properties of artichokes.

Met chef today in the Jewish quarter of Rome, her home town. Had a slice of potato pizza, and discovered other Jewish Italian delicacies. Jewish quarter restaurants are divided into milky or meaty explains Silvia. Kosher rules.

Sichuan peppercorns when home grown (by ) are SO much more intense than shop bought. You get pepper, citrus, that tingling feeling that now lasts for ages. A real taste experience
