Grow Blackpool is looking beautiful at this time of the year and is a welcoming oasis for volunteers and visitors who come to the Grange. It’s harvest time at Grow Blackpool, fresh fruit and vegetables which are used by our cafe at the Grange and volunteers and local community to cook fresh meals. Plenty of interesting activities going on too! We are still sorting out our seed library and volunteers are supporting the building a green community hub at N Vision in South Shore. We have been weeding, sowing and propagating and choosing spring bulbs which will be planted in autumn. Bruno the resident wood artist with left Coast held an interesting session carving green wood tools from Sycamore and made a stool to sit on.
A nice time had by all!

A sunny hot week at Grow Blackpool. Our brilliant volunteers are deigning a seed library, also sorting, preparing packets of local seeds for sale for visitors to buy. We are processing dried flower seed too in the shade. Lots of harvesting crops for the cafe, shop and volunteers to cook at home. the plums, a bumper crop of cucumbers and tomatoes. We celebrated a special birthday too and had a great time chatting together.

A happy day at Grow Blackpool sorting and harvesting seeds and tidying our sheds. The long spell of hot weather has pushed some our plants to set seed very quickly and we are collecting them and sorting the dried into packets for sale. We’ve also been busy tidying the polytunnel, now we can enter and do some good work arranging our squash and pumpkins, the sunflowers are hitting the ceiling! Our volunteers have been sharing brilliant ideas over brews about our autumn Apple Festival.

A lovely couple of days at Grow Blackpool! our volunteers are harvesting our Blackpool grown vegetables and fruit for the cafe and to take home to cook. We have been collecting seed heads which have ripened early in the hot weather. There has been a lot of admiration from visitors for our gigantic sunflowers in the polytunnel. They are now hitting the roof!

Grow Blackpool volunteers have been harvesting, feeding, planting and painting at Grow Blackpool and supporting a new Green Hub at N Vision in SouthShore. We have also been helping wildlife by joining The Big Butterfly Count. Volunteers have been logging the visitors to our green spaces and submitting our count to the live interactive map. Theres a butterfly emergency in the UK and they need to survey uk wide to help assess the health of our uk environment. Anyone can join and add their garden or local park to the butterfly count. Just google The Big Butterfly count from Friday the 17th of July to Sunday the 9th of August.

A fun day at Grow Blackpool. Lots of volunteers today working on all the vegetable beds and planting up the herbaceous border after the hot weather! We’ve been feeding, weeding and pruning everywhere. The crops are growing and the potato’s and courgettes are plentiful.

Grow Blackpool volunteers have been enjoying the cooler weather this week. There’s a lot of work been done in the polytunnel taking off sideshoots and feeding and weeding our tomatoes and cucumbers. The borders have been cut back and the wildlife garden too. We have also been working with Bruno Schooling our resident artist with the arts charity Left Coast making insect hotels and our volunteers have been supporting the Green Community hubs project to create a beautiful garden at N Vision in SouthShore. We are looking for volunteers to join us each Wednesday 10 to 3pm. We are building a sensory garden for people with low vision. Please message us if you are interested.

Another very warm day at Grow Blackpool. Our volunteers have been keeping cool under shades sorting out seeds, harvesting our veg and watering.
It’s amazing to see so many bees and butterflies 🦋 visiting our borders. We will do the 2026 Big Butterfly Count from 17th July to Sunday 9th August and see how many species we can count in 15 minutes . You all can have a go and submit your sightings to the Big Butterfly Count website.

We are all keeping cool at Grow Blackpool today, finding shady spots and doing gentle garden activities. Lots of our volunteers gravitate to our apple dome gazebo in this weather and a great place to eat your lunch and watch the butterflies in the meadow. We have harvested potatoes and lots of berries and courgettes for sale in the entrance of the At the grange Blackpool
