This is why we donated and had a defibrillator fitted at the shop. Wanting to give something back to the community and thank our customers for their loyalty. We hope you never need to use it, however should you need it, it's there for all. Amazing story, saving someone's life. This is Lee Webb's story....
My name is Lee and I have survived a Cardiac Arrest.
On the 22nd April 2024 I was sat watching television, and my wife had gone to have a bath. She came downstairs and thought I was snoring, so came over to prod me. I muttered inhaler so she went upstairs to get it. On her return I was unconscious.
She rang 999 and the operator told her to do CPR, but she couldn't get me off the chair .She ran to our neighbour and he got me on the floor and started CPR ( luckily he is a pharmacist and CPR trained ). His partner ran to the local football pitch to get the defibrillator. They followed the instructions and also with guidance from the 999 operator they shocked me 5 times before the ambulance arrived.
The paramedics then took over and shocked me a further 3 times. They eventually stabilised me enough to move me to our local hospital but I Had another arrest in the ambulance.
After more treatment at the hospital I was transferred 26 miles to the nearest specialist heart hospital where they operated to put a stent in .
Overall I was without oxygen for approximately 50 minutes and my wife was told there are normally one of two outcomes from Cardiac Arrest with oxygen deprivation.
After 3 days of unconsciousness the patient doesn't wake up.
The patient is awake and fully responsive and conversing mainly accurately.
I was neither of these,after 3 days the sedation had worn off and was no longer in my system but I was moving between consciousness and semi awareness. I didn't recognise my wife or daughter.
They were told we were at the start of a very long road and had to take each day as it comes.
Eventually I started to recognise my wife and daughter, but had no short term memory but I could remember my prostate operation from 12 years ago. I still have short term memory problems but in the grand scheme of things I am doing well.
This is thanks to my wife's quick action and my neighbour doing CPR and getting the defibrillator so quickly.
We were told this is what saved my life!
