Trolls don’t usually get a response from me… but I think sometimes they expect that.

I’m also making it a thing to call out bullying behaviour, both on and off social media.
(I call it the gentle pushback)

First off, I’ve been making caramel apple tarts since I opened. (See the photo if you need proof.)

I’ve been baking for over 35 years and, quite honestly, there’s very little I haven’t baked.

Has anyone trolled Marks & Spencer for “copying” MY caramel cornflake brownie? 🤦‍♀️

I don’t think I’m special. Quite the opposite.

What I do believe in is collaboration over competition.

I will always support other bakers and small businesses. I’ve offered advice when asked, lent equipment, given up my time to physically help people out, and I’ve even offered another café owner the use of my kitchen. Another market trader the use of my fridge!

That’s who I am.

I don’t “do” negativity, and I try not to surround myself with people who feel the need to build themselves up by bringing others down.

But I also won’t tolerate bullying behaviour, whether that’s on social media, in messages, or behind the scenes.

It’s not my bag.

I’m about building people up, not tearing them down.

Bullying doesn’t belong in the school playground, and it certainly doesn’t belong in adulthood.

So I’ll carry on doing what I’ve always done. Baking the things I love, supporting other independents, cheering people on, and believing there is enough room for all of us.

Because at the end of the day, none of us invented cheesecake, peach melba, salted caramel or crumble.

Food evolves.

Recipes are shared, adapted and reimagined. Every baker brings something different to the table.

Be kind. Support local. Cheer each other on.

And if you fancy a slice of cheesecake, there’s plenty to go around.
