Nadiring or not nadiring
That’s the question…
The bees have been compressed (boxes removed to reduce space), the queen excluders are out, entrance reducers in and now there’s 1 final manipulation to carry out before a final inspection.
Remove the feeders (top box, tbh this year there just there as extra space to negate any late swarm tendencies, they’re all maybe too strong atm) and nadire.
Nadiring is the process of removing the super (the thinner box) and placing it under the brood box.
Ask 10 beekeepers for their opinion on this and you’ll get 14 different answers.
From overwinter cluster movement, varroa treatments, clearing supers, moving the brood higher, temperature, ventilation etc etc.
I personally where I am find nadiring more successful on a ventilated floor, but on a solid floor I’ve had mixed results, so the experiments continue.
And thats the thing with some aspects of beekeeping, it depends where you are, the timing, they way you work you hives.
There’s drones still in the hives so we’re still ok to look, but there’s now no new ones being produced, and drone eviction day is coming fast.
The bit I hate, the bitter sweet putting your kit down and trusting what you’ve done.
On the one hand I’m knakared.
I bit off more than I could chew this year and I barely got away with it.
I’m sick, I need a rest.
Im done.
On the other I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every frustrating moment, n I’m genuinely going to miss them.
The bees are my therapy.
