🏆 Apparently, once wasn’t enough…

Well, this is rather splendid. The Pickled Pear has only gone and been nominated for the CAMRA Micro Pub of the Year 2026 — meaning we’ve somehow managed to make the shortlist two years running.

Last year, despite our best efforts to remain modest and sensible, you lot went and voted us all the way to the top, and we were crowned CAMRA Micro Pub of the Year 2025.

Which was lovely. Obviously, the sensible thing would have been to retire immediately, build a statue of ourselves and spend the rest of our days polishing the trophy.

But no. Here we are again. So, if you enjoy a proper pint, good company, questionable amounts of whisky and spending several hours putting the world to rights despite having absolutely no intention of solving any of its problems, we’d be rather grateful if you voted for us again.

After careful consideration, extensive scientific research and members of the team slowly melting into the furniture, we’ve decided that:

Due to the frankly ridiculous levels of heat.
We love a pint. We love a whisky. We even quite enjoy standing behind a bar pretending we know what we’re doing.
But we draw the line at slowly cooking our customers. 😂
So, for the sake of keeping everyone cool, comfortable and preferably still conscious, we’ll be taking a little heat-related break during the hottest part of the day.

🍐 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓: 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥, 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞, 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝.
Normal service will resume from Tuesday next week once the weather stops behaving like it’s auditioning for the Sahara.

Dave and his son Taylor are currently walking 130 miles from the Wirral back to Palterton.
The plan is for them to arrive back at The Pickled Pear roughly 6pm on Saturday (8/8/26)
It would be great to have as many people with us to give them a cheer as they arrive 🎉

If you're wondering what on earth lurks behind the doors of our little village pub before making the trip, then grab a brew and have a watch of Steve Riley - YouTube's cracking video.

He's somehow managed to capture the proper pints, the whisky collection that's growing faster than weeds in a neglected field, the warm welcome, and the glorious organised chaos that is The Pickled Pear... all without being chased by an angry goose or tripping over a tractor.

🍐 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐝...
Well... that was a week.
The kitchen is back in business, the pans are sizzling, the chef has returned, and everyone has stopped looking like they'd rather disappear into the nearest hedge.
Our full menu is back, which means you can once again enjoy a proper breakfast, lunch or homemade meal, wash it down with a cracking pint, a decent coffee and a slice of cake... or sample your way through our collection of 𝟏𝟎𝟎+ 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐞𝐬, we won't judge.

🍐 A Little Update from The Pickled Pear...
Unfortunately, our chef has had to take time off at short notice.
As much as we'd all like to wave a magic wand (or a frying pan), family comes first, 𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤.
The good news? The bar is still fully stocked, the kettle's on, the coffee machine's behaving itself, and we've got plenty of cakes to keep spirits up.
So, if you fancy a proper pint, one of our 100+ whiskies, a glass of wine, a decent brew or a slice of cake, we'd love to see you.
