It’s been a busy summer here on the farm and we’ve had a break from showing for a few weeks while we had some family time, and time visiting friends and family around the country.

However, Monday brought us back showing with a bang, as we went to the lovely Aylsham Show in Norfolk. We only took 4 lambs as the ewes and tups are busy making next years show team 😉, but the ram lambs took 1st and 2nd in their class. The ewe lambs were unplaced this time, and Felicity won the young handlers with 20+ competitors and has qualified for the young shepherd of the year final in November 🏆 so a fantastic day was had.
We have Wragby show on Sunday which will be the end of our summer showing. But perhaps we could find some winter shows this year which would be a new thing for us 🤔 watch this space!

New boy on the block 🐑
While I ran some errands yesterday, James, Charlie and Felicity went to Partney fair in search of a new tup… and look at this smart fella!
The children never have a problem with coming up with names and take inspiration from anywhere! Last year we purchased ‘Mason’ (after Masons Rural) and this boy has been named ‘Phillip’ (after Phillip’s animal health)!
Welcome Phillip, he is already mates with Charlie’s show tup, Pie, and fingers crossed he gives us some great lambs 🐑 🐑 🐑

After tb testing and sorting sheep yesterday, to delivering eggs on his bike and helping with the farrier round today. These 2 get stuck into everything and I couldn’t be more grateful of their help 🙌
Never a quiet day but we wouldn’t have it any other way 🐮🐑🐴🐓🦆

A lovely day at Revesby today. Felicity took a win in her young handler class, Charlie was 2nd with Ginger in the lamb class and felicity 2nd with bluebell in the ewe class. We had an extra pair of hands with our friend Lily coming along to help and she did so well for her first ever show!
On the way back home we dropped Bluebell off in the tupping paddock with Conker, and gave him a quick re-raddle in the next colour and the cheeky girl was blue before we had even left the field! 🙊💙

Heckington show, always a special show for us as it’s the first we ever came to 3 years ago.
This year Charlie was back to entering eggs, with lots of wins for his duck and chicken eggs. There was a mix of rosettes for the sheep from 2nd-6th in some big classes. But the winner of the day was Felicity, winning her young handler class and then Champion young handler for the sash and trophy 🏆 and of course with the lovely Bluebell 🐑

New boy Conker went out with his bunch of ewes yesterday and this morning has had a name upgrade from the children due to the amount of green bottoms this morning! Now known as ‘Conker the Bonker’ 🙈
Benjamin also went in with his ewes, so roll on Christmas lambing! 🎄

A flying visit to Somerset this weekend for the annual Dorset Down breed show and sale. A fabulous day was put on with some fantastic sheep as always. We were after a tup and although we couldn’t buy the top show rams due to them being either lambs or already closely related to some of our flock, we came home with a lovely tup who the children have named Conker, and we bought the champion female instead 🏆. She is a beautiful ewe lamb from Simon Dain, already named Legacy and we picked up another ewe lamb named Ellie who also caught our eye. We are all safely home, the sheep are meeting some new friends and we are ready for bed 😴.
Thank you to the Stamp family for a lovely venue and the Dorset Down Sheep Breeders' Association for a wonderful day.

🐑 Blaston show 🐑
🏆 Charlie’s ewe lamb Ginger - winner in rare breed ewe lamb, champion rare breed and Reserve champion Interbreed!! What little stars the ewe lambs are this year!
Also a win for Bluebell the shearling ewe, and Bramble the aged ewe, a 4th for Pie and 2nd group of 3.
Next weekend we are taking a break from showing as it’s the Dorset Down breed sale and the children have been saving up their prize money for a new tup 💰. Our wonderful current tup Benjamin has daughters of tupping age so we will go and see if there is anything suitable 👀….. (and as sheep shopping is James’s favourite pastime I’m sure they will come home with something!)
