Off we go to a chicken show!
Charlie prepped, planned and booked me as taxi to take him and his chickens (and a duck!) to the East Of England Poultry Club open show today.
He had a great day! They all won their sections and he learnt lots of things to help him along the way in future shows. If anyone is interested in showing chickens, ducks or eggs in the area. Please join the poultry club! Small entry fees and it would be great to have more young competitors and more birds in the classes. Feel free to ask us any questions if we can help 🐓

The big, the middle and the baby cattle all fed and watered, and news that some new young calves are coming to join us from Melton Mowbray Market later.
It’s like an intake of reception children and all the others need to move up a section. But are the newbies baby babies? Or the biggest ones the bigger bigs??

Such a lovely day at Wragby Show & Country Fayre, it wasn’t our day with the sheep. They have lacked a bit of preparation this week due to getting back to school, taking care of some family, and doing the last quick friend catch ups before we settle into the September routine, but also Charlie has had his focus on something new 👀….. his highly anticipated debut in chicken showing 🐓
He has been excited about showing chickens for so long and after being bathed, fluffed and polished this week, his beautiful Cream legbar hen won him first prize!
He also won 3x 1sts and 2x 3rds with his eggs too!! Charlie loves his chickens and ducks so now I guess they might be popping along with us to more shows 🐑 🐓 🦆

It’s been a busy summer here on the farm and we’ve had a break from showing for a few weeks while we had some family time, and time visiting friends and family around the country.

However, Monday brought us back showing with a bang, as we went to the lovely Aylsham Show in Norfolk. We only took 4 lambs as the ewes and tups are busy making next years show team 😉, but the ram lambs took 1st and 2nd in their class. The ewe lambs were unplaced this time, and Felicity won the young handlers with 20+ competitors and has qualified for the young shepherd of the year final in November 🏆 so a fantastic day was had.
We have Wragby show on Sunday which will be the end of our summer showing. But perhaps we could find some winter shows this year which would be a new thing for us 🤔 watch this space!

New boy on the block 🐑
While I ran some errands yesterday, James, Charlie and Felicity went to Partney fair in search of a new tup… and look at this smart fella!
The children never have a problem with coming up with names and take inspiration from anywhere! Last year we purchased ‘Mason’ (after Masons Rural) and this boy has been named ‘Phillip’ (after Phillip’s animal health)!
Welcome Phillip, he is already mates with Charlie’s show tup, Pie, and fingers crossed he gives us some great lambs 🐑 🐑 🐑

A lovely day at Revesby today. Felicity took a win in her young handler class, Charlie was 2nd with Ginger in the lamb class and felicity 2nd with bluebell in the ewe class. We had an extra pair of hands with our friend Lily coming along to help and she did so well for her first ever show!
On the way back home we dropped Bluebell off in the tupping paddock with Conker, and gave him a quick re-raddle in the next colour and the cheeky girl was blue before we had even left the field! 🙊💙
