This week, our Commercial Services team are waiting in anticipation after celebrating a double dose of recognition for being shortlisted for two national awards at the upcoming NUS Trade Convention 2026.
Members of the team have been shortlisted for both the National Safety & Security Leadership Award and the National Community Engagement & Social Responsibility Award, recognising its continued commitment to creating safe, welcoming spaces while also building strong, positive connections with students, staff, and the wider community.
Together, these two categories sit at the heart of the campus experience. One highlights innovation and leadership in tailoring national safety and security frameworks to work effectively at a local level, while the other celebrates meaningful work that strengthens ties between the university and its community, promoting social responsibility.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for these awards! Our teams work tirelessly behind the scenes to create an environment where students don’t just feel safe but truly belong. To have that recognised on a national stage is a testament to everyone’s determination and hard work.” — Allison Thickett, Head of Commercial Services & Operations.
“Reaching the national shortlist is already a huge achievement, as it reflects the work that happens day in, day out across our teams to improve the student experience. It’s not just about delivering services; it’s about creating spaces that naturally make students feel safe, welcome, and connected. Being shortlisted nationally shows our focus on making a real impact!” — Tom Walling, Trading & Engagement Manager – Sport & Commercial Services.
The NUS Trade Convention brings together universities from across the UK, providing a platform for sector leaders to share best practice, celebrate success, and recognise outstanding contributions within the student landscape.
The winners will be announced at Liverpool Guild of Students in July.
