One of our goals in the gym might be to get you stronger…

And part of that does mean seeing you lift more weight

However that isn’t the only measure of progress

Are you lifting more weight in the session as a whole?
- Yes, we track this, along with what you lift for each individual exercise

Are you lifting with better technique and more control?
- If you are, then you’re likely lifting the same weight for a longer period of time during that set

Are you more confident in your technique when lifting… and feeling confident just being in the gym, picking up weights and lifting them?
- This is going to translate into strength in the gym and making training part of your lifestyle for the long term

And are you recovering well from sessions and so able to train more frequently and consistently?
- If you are, then you’re likely to start seeing better results from your training

We’re not here to just make you sweat buckets for an hour, doing burpees or wall balls or whatever… then not see you until the next week

We’re about holding you accountable to getting in the gym 2-3 times a week

Yes we want you to work hard, but to the right level of challenge, to stimulate adaptation to get stronger…

We want to work with you to make your training a consistent part of your lifestyle; that makes you feel good when you leave the gym and helps you get the most out of your daily life

If all you needed was a diet plan to follow and a training programme to do in the gym, you’d already be in shape

We live in a time when it’s never been easier to get the info you need, for free…

You could go straight on ChatGPT and ask it to put together a diet and training plan for fat loss and you’d have what you need

The problem isn’t so much knowing what to do…

It’s about getting yourself to do it consistently, for longer than 2 weeks, so you actually see results

This is what we work on with clients

We work with you to get a structure to help improve your diet and fit a training plan in around work commitments, family, while still allowing you to have a social life

Planning around the inevitable curve balls that life throws up and that can easily knock you off track with your diet and training

Providing accountability to get in the gym each week and do what you need to do each week to build consistency with you diet and lifestyle outside of the gym

And we’re there for you at times when things don’t go to plan (and there will be times that happens), to help you get straight back on track again

So you’re trying to make training in the gym a habit that you tick off each week…

But making it a habit, does NOT mean that its going to happen automatically

It’s not like you’re just driving home from work and suddenly find you’ve driven to the gym instead of driving home…

Or automatically start waking up 6am to go in the gym before work…

It is still going to require conscious effort

You’ll still have to plan your week to schedule in times to get in the gym. Sometimes work will get in the way, or life will throw in a curve ball and you’ll miss a session. That doesn’t mean you’ve not built a habit, or that you’ve broken the habit…

Don’t get caught in the trap of thinking that going to the gym is going to become an autonomous thing you do each week… it isn’t

It’s always going to require a level of effort on your part

We want your training to be an identity based habit; something you do regularly because it’s a part of the type of person you want to become

The goal is to become someone who trains consistently, now, and in to the future

This is how you make training long lasting, see and feel the results that come from consistent training and maintain them

What a day yesterday was, with the team, running the Manchester 10k

Days like this are why I love coaching people…

Richard almost sprinting over the line to just dip under the hour mark in his first ever 10k (and having not ran for almost 3 years, before I ‘gently nudged’ him into doing this!?)

knocking 3mins off her previous PB and getting comfortably under an hour, as well 👌🏻

went sub 50mins for the first time!

And Rick demolished his previous PB of just over 46mins and was so close to going sub 45 🤏🏻

Then seeing everyone enjoy it, have a laugh and go and enjoy a bite to eat and a couple of drinks afterwards…

That’s what it’s about!

You’re not aiming to be perfect with your diet and training…

In reality, it’s unachievable

You have a life, a job, a family, a social life… these are all likely to get in the way a bit at times and if you’re aiming to be 100% ‘on it’ with your diet and locked in on hitting every training session, then chances are you’re going to feel like you’ve failed if or when life gets in the way!?

Rather than aiming to be perfect, aim to be consistent…

🏋🏻‍♀️ Hit a minimum of 2 workouts a week, but if you can, get 3-4 in. Worst case you get 2 workouts done, best case you hit 5…

🥦 Aim to have a portion of protein with each meal, plus some veggies and/or fruit… if you can prep it all yourself, that’s a bonus and gives you more control. If you have to eat out, working to this simple guideline can help to manage calories and get some nutrients in

👟 Have a step range to aim for over the week, rather than each day… if it’s a day you’re in back to back meetings, aiming for 10k steps is unrealistic. But having a target to work towards over the week allows you to make up for it on the days you do have more time

Most of getting results with your fitness and building the habits to allow you to maintain them, is about keeping your head in the game and building consistency of behaviours

This is what we do!

David came to us having already lost a few kilos by himself, before hitting a plateau and feeling stuck

He wanted to kick start his weight loss again, to help improve his blood pressure, as well as his health over all

We started off looking for the ‘easy wins’ to improve his diet; to get more protein and fibre in, to reduce overall calorie intake, without him feeling like he was starving himself or ‘on a diet’

David trained in the gym twice per week, mostly focussed around getting stronger and building/maintaining muscle and improving some weakness and shoulder issues, plus a session a week programmed for him to do at home, on his own

We also looked at how active he was outside of the gym and ways of increasing his activity around being busy with his business… which his dog Ella (in the second picture) particularly enjoyed over the summer, along with him having to slot in a few extra ‘X-trainer half hours’ to make up for the days when work took over (and improve aerobic health)

So far, he’s roughly 12kg down from when we started (closer to 22kg with the work he’d done on his own, first) and almost 5 inches down around his middle… which is highlighted in the pictures by the fact he had a gilet and hoodie on underneath his coat (compared to only the coat in first picture!?)
