All Things Tea - The Origins

From an early age, I have found tea to be an intriguing thing. In itself it is quite an uncomplicated product, but the ways in which it is used and the connotation it can have in different situations is very vast.

In 2017 I started a more in-depth journey into the world of tea and followed my first introductory course with Kelly Meeus, a Belgian Tea Sommelier. It was an eye opening experience that not only taught me a lot about the Camelia Sinensis plant and the production process of tea, it also introduced me to a vast world of flavours I never imagined could be linked with tea. Things like milky oolong, Tibetan butter tea, smoky tea, tea that smells and tastes like peat whisky, grass, vegetables, fruit, spices, nuts, cotton candy, (burnt) popcorn, to***co, or simply a forest after a good rain splash. The smells, flavours and images tea conquers up in your mind’s eye are endless. It takes you back to memories you long forgot about, bringing back all sorts of nostalgia. More than once did our group lose itself in the childhood stories that accompanied warm memories and feelings, brought back to life by the tiny cup of liquid we were holding.

After that it was easy to decide that I wanted to continue my training in tea and further discover the wonders this sensory world holds and to someday be able to make my living working in it.

As I proceeded with my training to become a certified tea sommelier, master and blender (still ongoing!), I started feeling a growing need to share these experiences with other people. That is why I started All Things Tea. Its purpose is to help people discover the immense universe of tea and learn more about its origins, how to use and brew it and how to enjoy it. It will hopefully open up the same world of sensory experiences to them as it did to me because it is an amazing feeling, when you find that perfect tea that tickles your nose and tongue just right, that takes you to the most beautiful places in your mind or brings back precious memories. When it not only fills your body with its warmth but also your soul.
