Westy and Worzel

Westy and Worzel We offer organic, pasture fed beef and lamb, a secure dog exercise field, lambing experiences, volunteer events or our nature walks and talks.

We are a 500 acre, Soil Association certified, organic beef and sheep farm located on the Jurassic Coast in East Devon. We farm just 80 Lleyn ewes. Originally from the Lleyn Peninsula in Wales, this breed are well suited to organic systems and great for converting grass to meat so don't tend to need additional feed. They are known for their quiet nature, easy lambing and maternal instinct. The lam

bs are either pure bred Lleyns or Lleyn x Suffolk. The Suffolk x lambs tend to fatten a bit more quickly and helps to extend our sales period. Lleyn sheep don't mind steep ground with thin grass which is ideal for our coastal farm! We keep 10 - 20 lambs each year to replenish our breeding stock and we currently have a Lleyn and a Suffolk ram. We have a herd of just 120 breeding cows and 2 Aberdeen Angus bulls. The cows are either Aberdeen Angus or Aberdeen Angus x Hereford. Both the Aberdeen Angus and the Hereford are renowned for being hardy breeds that do well on all grass diets. They tend to be healthy animals that suffer less from some common cattle illnesses. The meat from both the Aberdeen Angus and the Hereford are well marbled, ensuring a tender, succulent and flavoursome meat. Being Soil Association certified we must abide by strict rules regarding the use of medicines and chemicals and pertaining to the welfare of our animals. We pride ourselves on our animal husbandry and use natural methods to ensure our animals are as healthy and stress free as possible. We are Red Tractor farm assured. We are currently in an Organic Higher Level Stewardship programme which ensures that we manage our land for conservation purposes. We have lots of wonderful habitat for invertebrates, bees, birds and bats. We also have some wonderful species of plants and wildflowers on the farm and we manage the land to maintain and enhance these habitats.

The vast majority of our users are very considerate about the field and the environment, but we have received some comments that there has been litter left in the field - specifically broken balls. It has also been highlighted to us that there are bags of waste left in the bridleway. This is a public right of way used by many dog walkers and I am sure it is not left by any of our responsible dog owners, but please can we remind all users to remove any litter and leave the field and surrounding area as you would wish to find it. THANK YOU!

If you don’t already know - we won’t be doing our lambing experiences this year. Some of you have enquired as to whether we can recommend anywhere else - please see below. It’s not quite the same as the experiences we offered but take a look.

Come and see the lambs, feed the pet lamb. Meet the alpacas. Various stalls will be there. BBQ. Cakes and drinks stall.
