🐄🌱 It’s not all lentils and cabbage, you know…

One of the things we love most at Max’s Café is seeing people arrive expecting one thing and leave pleasantly surprised.

Many visitors come to meet the rescued cows, pigs, sheep, ducks and chickens who call the sanctuary home. As a sanctuary, we provide a safe haven for animals rescued from farming industries, so it probably won’t come as a surprise that our café serves a completely plant-based menu.

What does surprise people is the food.

Plant-based doesn’t mean missing out. Our menu is packed with familiar favourites including:

☕ Great coffee
🥪 Tasty lunches
🍪 Sweet treats

…and plenty more besides.

We believe meeting our rescued residents speaks for itself. While you’re here, why not grab a coffee, enjoy some cake and discover just how delicious plant-based food can be?

📍 Max’s Café is open Friday to Tuesday every week, and every day during school holidays, so come and sample some of our plant-based delights for yourself.

We love every Hopefield event and they’re all so important in helping raise vital funds for the sanctuary and its rescued animals.

But if we’re honest, this one is our personal favourite. 💚🌱

As a fully plant-based café, Hopefield’s Vegan & Wellness Day means a lot to us. We’ve sadly seen too many vegan events disappear, vegan businesses close, and even vegan options quietly removed from menus over recent years.

So let’s turn the tide.

This was genuine feedback left for us by a visitor recently. The truth is, we are part of an animal sanctuary, and dairy milk just doesn’t align with why exists. We rescue cows from the meat and dairy industries — so serving dairy feels far from ‘normal’ to us.

A calf drinking their mum’s milk is normal. That milk was made for them. 🤎

You absolutely don’t have to be vegan to visit Max’s Café, and we genuinely welcome everyone through the door. But being fully plant-based is part of our ethos, and always will be. 💚

We’re closed now until Friday when we’ll be back serving up food that doesn’t need explaining — just tastes good and happens to be a bit kinder too. 💚

To the few who weren’t convinced… we respect your opinion. Truly. But after a quick team meeting, Arlo the cow, Buttons the sheep, Casper the goat and all their friends have decided they’re not interested in being the special of the day 😂
