Well, this is a bit emotional 🥹

We’ve received a letter from our local MP, Chris Elmore, to tell us that someone in our community has nominated Pie Queen for the Bridgend & Porthcawl Small Business Awards 2026! 🥧

Whoever you are, THANK YOU! 💜 The fact that someone has taken the time to put our little pie business forward means more than you know.

From starting out on the farm to moving into our own bakery, building an amazing team and serving all you lovely lot, it’s been one hell of a journey!

We’re just a bunch of people who love making proper homemade food, using quality ingredients and bringing a bit of happiness to people’s bellies. 😂🥧

£813.47. EIGHT HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN POUNDS AND FORTY-SEVEN PENCE. 🤯

That’s how much I’ve just been invoiced for the privilege of… PLAYING MUSIC IN MY OWN BUSINESS. 🎶

Yes, you read that correctly.

As a small business owner in the UK, I have to pay £813.47 EVERY YEAR for a licence to play music in my bakery.

That’s £67.79 A MONTH.

And before anyone says it… NO, that’s not my Spotify or Amazon Music subscription. That’s separate.

This is literally a licence to allow music to be played in a commercial premises.

What am I actually paying for? Apparently, permission to let my staff and customers listen to a bit of music while we make and sell pies. 🥧

I totally get that artists must be paid royalties and I get this is not UK government run but they sure do allow these type of shenanigans to take place!

And if I don’t pay? I risk legal action and potentially paying even more.

Imagine explaining that to someone who doesn’t run a business in the UK. They’d think you were taking the p**s.

Everywhere you turn as a small business owner, there’s another bill, another licence, another fee, another expense.

We work ridiculous hours, employ local people, pay our taxes, pay our rent, pay our energy bills, and somehow there’s ALWAYS another hand out.

£813.47 just to have a bit of background music.

I genuinely couldn’t make this stuff up.

And people wonder why small businesses are struggling.

I’m really trying my bestie most hardest to play by the book and be a good girl but absolute ICK!!

Let’s absolutely rinse this license by starting Pie Queen karaoke 🎤 where you sing a whole song FROM YOUR CHEST and get a free beef bomb 💣 or cookie 🍪

Fellow business owners… please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks this is absolutely BONKERS?! 🤯

🍓💦 HAVE YOU TRIED PIE QUEEN’S STRAWBERRY SQUIRTER?! 💦🍓

A buttery croissant stuffed to the brim with jam, custard cream and fresh strawberries, finished with a generous drizzle of Belgian milk chocolate. 🤤🍫

And yes… it’s called the STRAWBERRY SQUIRTER because it squirts out the side when you take a bite. OBVIOUSLY. 😏😂

Although I’m not entirely convinced that’s the only reason the staff love making grown men come up to the till and ask for a full Strawberry Squirter… 👀🤣

Honestly, the level of professionalism in this bakery is absolutely shocking. 💀😂
