This more frequent posting is going well as you can tell 🤦🏼‍♀️

It is 31 degrees here at the moment so I've opted for a cooler job and thought I'd give you a little update.

First year of outdoor lambing is all finished and went well, we were super lucky with the weather. And then it feels like it's rained ever since until the last couple of weeks 🤣

Ewes are all sheared and both ewes & lambs have been treated to prevent any flystrike. The lambs are growing well and hoping to be able to sell the majority as lamb boxes when the time comes 🐑

With the good comes the bad and the fox has unfortunately seen all of our chickens off bar 1 so will be looking to get some more as and when the time is right.

Exciting news though is that I've made a page for our pop up campsite which opens on 10th July until 7th September. If you could go across and give the page a like we would appreciate it! Of course as you all know I can't promise we will post often enough but we will give it a whirl! 🤪

Back to basics pop up campsite near Mylor Bridge in Cornwall

Ok so when we said we would share some of our best bits of 2025 over the next few days that may have stretched into months 🤣

It feels like a lifetime ago now and seems a little silly telling you about lambing in 2025 when we are only 6 weeks off of lambing this year but we are going to do it anyway!

We bought 20 in lamb Devon Closewool ewes to add to our flock which bought us up to 100 to lamb. We started lambing a few days early on the 3rd March and we got off to a flying start and had lambed nearly half the flock in 2 weeks! We finished lambing early April which was pretty good going and we were pretty lucky with the weather during that time. We got the ewes and lambs out to grass as soon as we could, although at this point we only had 2 fields of grass the rest was all still arable stubble!

We have kept 20 of our lambs to rear on for breeding ewes and they'll go to the ram this year to lamb in 2027 !

Last year we had just about enough space to lamb in the sheds. It was all a little make do and mend to begin with, but that's exactly what we did and we got through! This year however, we have just over doubled the amount of ewes so we're going to lamb outside for the first time. So we are really praying for the rain to stop soon!

A year ago today was our first day at the farm and what a year it's been!

We would be lying to you if we didn't say it was hard but we are getting there and slowly but surely improving the farm and the flock!

The balance in what we do has always been important to us and hasn't been lost, still all our sheep are native or rare breed with the Devon Closewools at the heart of what we do and by working closely with Agri Carbon Kernow we are producing our lamb and beef all while sequestering more carbon than we produce! True local, carbon negative food!

We have just over doubled our ewe numbers, tripled our number of rams, bought 9 calves to rear for beef and gained a few chickens. We've drilled 70 acres of clover, grasses and cover crops, trying to improve soil structure and organic matter in the process.

We have lost some characters along the way this year which has been hard, but they got to live some of our dream with us 🥰

As well as starting our pop up camp site and starting to revamp our food trailer ( keep your eyes peeled for next year!)
We have so many more plans for the upcoming year and years to come and we promise we will be better at actually sitting down to do Facebook posts to keep you all updated!

Here's to year 2, to more chasing sheep, more fixing leaks (both water and oil) and even more progress on the farm.

Typically we weren't in on Monday evening while everyone was out snapping the beautiful Aurora

But last night I got a red alert on my phone so we marched up to the top of the fields to see of we could see them ourselves! Not quite as obvious as Monday but still truly magnificent!

We travelled all the way to Iceland a few years ago to try and see the Northern Lights and never caught a glimpse. So we were amazed to see them here in Cornwall! 😍

Big day yesterday! 🐑

We are due to start lambing the last week of March so yesterday we scanned our ewes. We are expecting 76 Singles 67 Doubles & 3 triplets

2 months to go, think lighter nights and warmer dryer days! 🤞🌤

We're still here!! 🥳

Apologies again for being quiet - Our new years resolution this year is to put more on our social media pages. So here's a start!

We have just managed to escape the 124mph winds of Storm Goretti fairly unscathed! No signal, power or water for a day or two so farm-opoly by lambing light it was! 🎲

We are back on now but think it'll be a few days to clear up all the fallen trees! 🌳🪵
