It's a scorcher outside, and the anticipation is building for an evening of footy & festivity at our campuses!

We've got BBQ's, live music, outdoor bar service, a team of eager staff who cannot wait to get going and ice cold drinks to accompany all of the above.

William Sitwell first encountered our Apprentices in 2024 during a tour of Hinkley Point C, and on his recent gastronomic outing to support Taunton college, he sampled the skill and dedication our most recent cohort of Commis Chef Apprentices- as well as their peers and classmates. We're proud to be a part of delivering a new generation of hospitality professionals, and it's great to see leaders, pioneers and bastions of our industry do the same.

We were delighted to welcome Ashley Fox MP for Bridgwater and Mark Weston to our apprentice chef midterm exam on Friday 22 May.

Apprentice Commis Chef Riley designed and cooked a delicious 3 course meal of:
Mozzarella Arancini served with Marinara sauce, topped with parmesan
Spinach stuffed chicken breast, with carrots, Tenderstem broccoli and potatoes, served with white wine sauce
Apple cinnamon loaf served with demerara sugar and a side of crème anglaise

Riley used local ingredients and demonstrated her skills that she has learned as part of her apprenticeship studies with UCS Group and refined during her employment at Somerset Larder.

We were proud to support the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards at the McMillan Theatre in Bridgwater on Thursday 21 May 2026 — an evening celebrating the achievements of young people across the county.
We were delighted to provide the food and sponsor the Sporting Achievement Award 🏆, recognising dedication, teamwork and excellence in sport.
Our Managing Director, Steve Braithwaite, presented both the Winner’s Award and Highly Commended certificates, honouring some truly inspiring young athletes.
Congratulations to all those recognised - your passion and commitment are inspiring, and we’re proud to support such an important community event. 👏

It's Learning at Work Week and this week our Level 2 Commis Chef Apprentices completed their mid term exams.
Tasked to produce a three course menu for four people to evidence their skills, knowledge and showcase their personality, our three apprentices excelled.

The creations included a range of Arancini Balls, Chicken Supreme, Confit Duck Leg and a Black Cherry Souffle. 🍽

On 21st April, the talented former Commis Chef Apprentice, Lauren Lewis, had the incredible honour of attending the Houses of Parliament as part of the Tastes of Exmoor event.

Following Lauren’s well-deserved win of 'Aspiring Chef of the Year', she was invited by Rachel Gilmour MP to showcase the very best of local produce and emerging talent to MPs from across the country, accompanied by our ever-supportive L&D lead, Phil Trevett.
To represent Somerset Larder at such a prestigious level — and to see Lauren’s hard work recognised on a national stage — was a testament to her dedication & skill.

The pair also had the privilege of meeting Sir Ashley Fox MP, whose team kindly gave them a personal tour of Parliament — an experience they won’t forget!
