BEER

As anyone who has joined us for a drink in the last few weeks will have noticed, we now have draught beer !

You will regularly see Verdant Brewing Co’s beers pouring at the bar - for our money they’re making the best modern style pales and IPAs in the UK. We love their Helles lager too - Crisp and refreshing like the German originals but with a little more noble-hop bitterness.

On that note - we haven’t forgotten about Augustiner Helles. A legendary German lager brewed according to the German beer purity laws (Reinheitsgebot). Widely considered one of the greatest beers of all time, Augustiner will be available by the bottle - always.

This weekend we will be pouring two beers from our friends Woodshedding Brewery brewery. They make old school styles with a modern ethos. On the taps… Landbier, rustic lager & ‘Tobi’ their special-edition pale ale.

We also have a carefully sampled selection of Belgian and German beers in the shop fridge. 🍺

OUR WINE LIST

Around this time every week we are busy choosing wines to pour by the glass over the weekend. The wines change every time which keeps things fresh and means you can always try something new.
Sometimes our choices are influenced by nothing more than our excitement to pour a new wine. Other times there is a little more consideration … food is usually a big one.
This week we’re choosing wines to pair with hot dogs made from scratch by Connor Half Penny Farm.

Some of the wines by the glass this week…

‘Vina Nato Disobbediente’ Valpolicella by Monte Dall`Ora - Juicy, fresh and herbaceous. We’ll be serving this natural red lightly chilled.

‘Natürlich’ Pet-Nat by Landron Chartier - this ‘cult’ fizz from the Loire is a favourite every time we get our hands on it. This blend of Vermentino, Gamay and Pinot Noir pours a beautiful light pink. A perfect balance of complexity and drinkability for the warm weather.

‘Schlehe’ Orange wine by Arndorfer - skin contact Gruner Veltliner (and small amounts of other grapes) from Kamptal, Austria. Bio-dynamically farmed, unfiltered and unfined. Whole bunch maceration gives this wine texture, stone fruit character and deep amber colour.

‘Vin des Potes’ ‘Clair’ wine by Château de Piote - 50% Malbec & 50% Merlot with only a short maceration (skin-contact) making for a super soft, low tannin red. Not typical Bordeaux at all but juicy, bright and easy.

THIS SATURDAY 23rd MAY ☀️
The weather is looking promising for our first DJ set of the year from DJ Tobasco🌶️ From mid afternoon he will be spinning some vinyl, playing an eclectic mix of world, funk, afrobeat and jazz.
Alongside, will be toasting some sandwiches from about 3pm 🥪
As ever, we will have a great selection of natural wines by the glass and on tap 🍺

Something good is coming 😮

We met at many moons ago. We worked closely together for years growing, cooking, discussing and eating sensational food. A few years on, with many avenues explored, we are getting together again to bring some of his delicious food to Bridport. Along with his partner we will be hosting a bunch of dates at the Wine Bar, showcasing ingredients from his family farm .penny.farm.

The first date is next weekend - 2nd May from 12.30pm (menu to follow).
It will be street food style, so no need to book. Just rock up, grab a glass and enjoy the sunniest spot in town 🌞
