Here is a selection of the species encountered on my first forage and find out event of the year!
The purpose of these sessions (aside from having a nice wander with good people in beautiful surroundings) is to help people start building relationships with wild plants and fungi that could last a lifetime.
We covered general foraging etiquette and safety, culinary and medicinal uses of many species of plants and a few fungi, poisonous species and potential lookalikes, some folklore, discussed our local restaurant recommendations, and more besides!
Accompanied by some wild snacks and tasters; pickled terracotta hedgehog fungi, wild garlic pesto, sourdough crostini, wild garlic kimchi and jelly ear liqueur chocs.
Next forage and find out: Saturday 14th March, Brighton.

First batch of wild garlic kimchi put down for this year.
I like my kimchi fresh and crunchy, so once it gets bubbling this should be ready in a few days.
So simple to make and hits the mark every time πŸ˜‹

New year, new name, new look!
Not sure if anyone's noticed, but it's an increasingly wild world out there. It's hard to feel grounded and in control amongst the swirling clouds of bad news, misinformation, and AI slop that is everywhere nowadays.
My aim with WildWorld is to help people reconnect to the real world around them through foraging, fermenting, cooking, and 'wildscape' gardening.
Good vibes are outside! And while we can't solve all the world's problems by picking mushrooms or cooking wild greens, we can certainly do a lot for our own mental health, happiness, and preparedness for the world of the future by reconnecting and engaging with the natural world in a practical and fulfilling way.
The first foraging walks of 2026 are available to book now through the bio links. Website updates to follow.
Huge huge thanks to all at for their hard work, inspiration and creativity in helping this new project to happen πŸ™β€οΈ
Happy new year!!!
Mike

🌻 Transform Your Garden Into a Forageable and biodiverse oasis 🌻🌱

Are you looking to make your garden a haven for native plants, fungi, and wildlife? 🌿✨ Whether you're after regular garden maintenance or a one-off consultation and design, I'm here to help you create a space that’s not only beautiful but also biodiverse and forage-friendly.

Imagine stepping outside to harvest fresh, wild food πŸŒΎπŸƒ or sharing the magic of native flora and fauna with your children and friends 🌸🐦.

I specialize in creating sustainable, ecological gardens that support local wildlife, promote natural growth, and provide you with a living classroom in your own backyard.

Based in Brighton & Hove and the surrounding areas, I offer personalized services to suit your needs. Whether you want to turn your garden into a wildlife haven or create a functional space to forage for food, let’s work together to make it happen!

'Traditional' gardening methods often work against the interests of our native wildlife, destroying valuable habitats and using harsh chemicals to create a manicured and sterile environment. With native biodiversity at an all-time low, we can take the opportunity to create mini oases of biodiversity in our own back gardens.

This isn't a portal into hell or a boil on a giant's backside. It's a boiling pot of grape molasses, and the end result was friggin delicious.
Seen a few molasses related posts recently (and still waiting to get my hands on some of 's noble fir molasses which sound insanely tasty). So thought I'd have a go at making some.
5 kilos of grapes, juiced, produced around 4 litres of grape juice (or must, as it's known). This was simply stained then reduced down to a syrupy consistency, et voila. I've been inspired by a lot of middle Eastern and Mediterranean recipes recently, many of which call for molasses as an ingredient, so it's great to have some homemade stuff on hand πŸ˜‹πŸ‘Œ

First shoots of wild garlic getting going at my favourite early spot.
Only picking a few leaves for a taste as the plants have hardly got going yet. The flavour of the young leaves is super intense, and a welcome sample of the delicious harvests to come πŸ˜‹ 🌱
