🦉 Fantastic news for barn owls in Ovingdean! 🦉

Today, alongside the Sussex Barn Owl Group, we checked our barn owl boxes and were delighted to discover THREE healthy chicks! After having no chicks for the past two years, this is wonderful news and a real boost for the local barn owl population.

The chicks – two females and one male – have been carefully rung, measured and weighed, and we’re pleased to report that they are all thriving.

The abundance of hunting opportunities in our field margins and long grasses is clearly helping these beautiful birds flourish, and we couldn’t be happier to see them doing so well.

Each chick has been fitted with an identification ring. If any of them are found elsewhere in the future, the rings will allow them to be traced back to BW Carr Farms, and we’ll be able to learn where their adventures have taken them.

A huge thank you to the Sussex Barn Owl Group for their continued support and monitoring work. Here’s hoping these three youngsters go on to have long and successful lives in the wild! ❤️🦉

5 years ago! The last World Cup Simon Steer was disappointed. Hopefully this year they won’t be. Which beltie will let us paint them with a flag this year?

We put a flag up yesterday on the farm to support the football and someone has reported it as being offensive, how sad is that?

We had a lovely walk around Ovingdean yesterday with South Downs National Park ranger Kim. It was great to see so many wildflowers, birds and butterflies thriving on our chalk grassland.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but it’s encouraging to see our restoration project really starting to come together. The combination of intensive winter grazing, followed by low-impact summer grazing with our Belted Galloways, is beginning to deliver the results we hoped for.

It’s rewarding to see the landscape responding and biodiversity returning year by year.

💙 Supporting Andy's Angels 💙

This year, our Farm Festival is proud to be raising money for Andy’s Angels, a wonderful charity dedicated to supporting children and young people who are experiencing grief and loss.

Losing a loved one can be incredibly difficult at any age, but for children it can be especially confusing and overwhelming. Andy’s Angels provides support, guidance, and opportunities for young people to connect with others facing similar challenges, helping them navigate their grief and feel less alone.

By attending our Farm Festival, making a donation, or taking part in the day’s activities, you’ll be helping Andy’s Angels continue their valuable work supporting local children and families through some of life’s toughest moments.

South of England show 2026

🏆Our homebred heifer Chanel Luna (Monochrome Furze X Barwise Jeorge) was female and breed champion.

🥈Mr perfect, Tiptop h***h, was second in a strong continental any age ram class. As always, he’s such a pleasure to show. He will be accepting MV Ewes to his field again this year.

🏅 Beech Hay Firefly was dragged from the field on Thursday evening to take part in the sheep leaders with Isabella. They were 4th, and both behaved impeccably.

👀 Lastly, our Belted Galloway bull King Kong is now looking for a herd of his own. He is an AM non carrier & proven with cows scanned in calf. He is a joy to have around & very easy to handle.
