They visited Amal Women's Training Center and Moroccan Restaurant - another organisation who uses the power of food as a vehicle for changing lives.

It’s probably been on your mind recently that taking care of yourself and your communities is of growing importance in this crazy world. It can be overwhelming to think about where to put your energy with so many things pulling at you. It’s not always good news, lately, is it? What if you could change the world over breakfast? When you eat our delicious food you keep women in work who have been refused opportunities and denied freedom because of how they look and sound. Houria puts talented migrant women of Bristol in the centre and works out from there. We combine our recipes and skills to give you scrumdidlyumptious morsels and meals and it feels blooming good, knowing you’re directly supporting a wicked cause. We warmly invite you to Salha’s Sundanese SupperClub fundraiser for Sudan War Relief Fund. 3 course Feast from Bristol Chef Salha Abdullah.
We warmly welcome you to this 3 course Sundanese Feast event to raise money for the Sundanese War Relief Fund. Salha's Sudanese Kitchen will be preparing their exquisite traditional dishes and serve them alongside the Houria Sisters to give you a wholesome evening to remember. You will enjoy feasting, music, henna and hand massage during the event.

This eventy is in aid of the Sudanese Civil War Relief Fund. Due to massive and tragic civil unrest in Sudan Salha's family is suffering dramatically and need urgent help. All of the proceeds of this event will be going directly to help them. Kim, Houria's founder will be speaking about the crisis.

Spotlight: Hello from Our Sister from Albania! 🧑🏻‍🍳

"I would like to be the voice for females in the future!" This is the wish of our Sister Festime (or Timi). ✊🏻 Having worked as an English teacher in Albania for over a decade before coming to the UK, Timi is now having a new dream at Houria and beyond.💡

She wants to share food and help in our new cafe, and meanwhile teach English and translate for her Albanian fellows in the community.💬 "I appreciate every bit of help that people have done for me. I care a lot about people," said Timi. 👩🏿‍🤝‍👩🏽

Spotlight: Meet Our Sister from Somalia! 🧕🏾

Farah, a mother of two, is in love with baking. 🫓🍞🍪 Having graduated from the FOODWISE programme, her next steps are to zone in on her baking skills with a few shadow sessions at . She hopes to start her own baking business in the future. 🥰 Farah is a talented cook of savoury dishes too and recently served up a feast of wonders for the Somali Women’s Eid gathering. "My favourite dish is Baris (rice and beans) which is my traditional dish," said Farah. 🍚

Spotlight: Welcome Our Sister from Ukraine! 🇺🇦

Iryna sought refuge in the UK after the war in Ukraine broke out in 2022. She is one of our FOODWISE programme stars, sharing her delicious and healthy food traditions with the group. She is also on the cafe staff team.🍪 "My favourite dishes to cook are Cottage Cheese Scones, a traditional Ukrainian dish, and Honour, a sweet cake with cream," Iryna shared. 🏡

Apart from having a huge passion in baking, Iryna also loves massage and wellbeing.💆🏼‍♀️ She is a resilient mother who is taking care of her daughter, when parts of her family are still staying in Ukraine as the devastating war goes on.

Mansura is a mother of a 7-year-old boy. She is a trainee chef in Houria’s first FOODWISE programme cohort. 🍳 "When I am with other women at Houria, I feel comfortable because I am not lonely," said Mansura. 💞

Mansura struggled with adapting to the food in the UK when she first arrived in this new country in 2015. But now, she has learnt much more about the diversity of food and started to appreciate various cuisine from other cultures. 🥣 Yet, traditional food from home remains to be her favourite, as it is closest to her heart and rooted with memories. 💭
