REOPENING TOMORROW (Wednesday 9th September) 8am - 12:45 pm.

The day has almost arrived, we will finally be reopening tomorrow after several months of being closed. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to make this possible, including that of our incredible staff! Thank you for all of your messages of support since announcing our reopening, it truly means the world to us. It has also been so lovely to see some of you pop in whilst we have been in prepping over the past week. We cannot wait to welcome you back once again, it’s certainly going to be an emotional week for all of us🥺 They say it takes a village to raise a child but over the years it’s taken a community to build our family butcher shop and what a privilege to continue to be a part of it❤️ Our notice board is now a collection of old photos of both dad (Lee) and our grandad (Doug) in the shop, who will always be watching over us and we will never let be forgotten🪽

See you all very soon,
Lily, Bridget, Zac, Izzy and baby Romy💕 (The Tucker family).

*Reopening Wednesday 9th September*

Hello everyone, sorry it’s been a little while since our last update. We have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to get everything into place and we are so excited to share with you that we will finally be reopening on Wednesday 9th September. If all goes to plan we should have our full range of stock available on this day. From then onwards our hours will remain the same as previously. We are really looking forward to welcoming you all back, with the same amazing team plus a few new additions who we are so pleased to be welcoming on board and the same products and service that you all know and love.

Please bare with us while we get back into the swing of things and navigate this new normal. It’s not going to be easy without Dad (Lee) but we are determined to keep my dad and grandads legacy alive. Hopefully do them proud, although they probably think we’re crazy for taking this on, and importantly continue the amazing community that they have built up over all of their years of hard work (which we will not let be in vain).

Thank you for all of your support over these last months, it means everything to us, we will certainly need your support to get back on our feet too. We can’t wait to have a chat, laugh and share stories once again because after all that’s what it’s all about.

Doug and Dad (Lee) this is for you, together we will keep your memory alive❤️

See you all very soon,
The Tucker family💕

Lee’s Celebration of Life

Words cannot thank you enough for helping us to give Lee the send that he deserved yesterday. We are completely overwhelmed by the amount of people who came to show their respect, love and support for Lee. From all of the customers/friends that lined Soundwell Road to create an incredibly touching, special moment outside the shop to everybody who came to the service (including those joining us through the webcast). We are sorry to those who had to stand outside the chapel, we could have never comprehended the amount of people who wanted to celebrate Lee’s life with us (the webcast will still be live for up to 28 days if you wish to see any of the service again). We are really grateful for you being there for Lee and for us. Thank you for all of the donations, both online and in person. Yesterday we managed to raise £1505 through the in person donations which we will be splitting between the two charities, this is amazing!

We also want to thank the whole team at R Davies & Sons Funeral Directors Hambrook for their genuine care and support throughout this whole process, helping us to ensure every detail was just right. Especially, Holly who was there from beginning to end with her exceptional support and kindness that she showed to us. Not to forget Tracy from Webbs Flowers , who we have sadly used on many occasions, but whose care and attention created such beautiful, fitting flower tributes for Lee.

David Miles Funeral Celebrant Disability & Makaton Tutor, our funeral celebrant, who curated a service like no other capturing Lee so meaningfully. It was so unique and special, the love and care that David put into this is truly unmatched. Even adding unexpected personal touches, like the t-shirt which read ‘Butcher. The man. The myth. The Legend. Lee Tucker’. David went the extra mile just like Lee always did.

Also the added touch from Avon Fire and Rescue Service for bringing the Fire Truck alongside all of the firefighters who attended. Thank you to The Kendleshire Natalie, Phillip and the whole team for hosting the celebration of life. Lastly Bristol.Live for honouring Lee and creating such lovely tributes that we will forever hold close to our hearts.

We will be forever grateful for everybody involved in bringing it all together. We couldn’t have done all of this without the support from our family, friends and customers. You have given us strength and comfort at such a difficult time. Such a phenomenal community❤️ Lee will continue to live on in all of our hearts and all of our memories🪽

Love Bridget, Lily, Zac, Izzy and Romy💕

Funeral donations

Dad was a huge part of the local community and loved what he did because of the community he had built through the Butchers over the many years. Dad always did his best to support causes that were important to his customers and made a difference to people in the local area. Because of this, we are doing family flowers only but for anybody who would like to donate we are asking for donations to either the Marmalade Trust or Bristol Dementia Action Alliance to give back to the local community. There will also be an opportunity to donate on the day if you wish to.

Customer update

Hello everyone, once again thank you for your kind messages of support during this very difficult time. Just an update on where we are with everything. We are working hard behind the scenes to get the butchers back up and running. Unfortunately, this is not a straightforward path so it is going to take some time but we are determined to carry on Doug and Lee’s legacy and continue serving the amazing community that has been built over the years. We will of course keep you updated and let you know when we are near reopening.

As part of this process we will be looking to employ another qualified butcher to join our small supportive team. As a family run business, with our community at the forefront, we are looking for somebody who will integrate with our team and valued customers. Our customer service and relationships are at the heart of our business so some of the qualities that we are looking for is somebody who:

- Is friendly and confident.
- Takes pride in what they do.
- Has strong communication skills.
- Works well as part of a team.
- Is honest and reliable.
- Has a good sense of humour.

If you think you have the skills and qualities to fulfil this role, or know somebody that does, please get in contact (by message) to discuss this opportunity further.

Funeral/Celebration of Life arrangements

Lee’s funeral will be held on Saturday 1st August, 11:30 am, at Westerleigh Crematorium in the Waterside Chapel. We would like to invite everyone who wishes to pay their respects and celebrate Lee’s life to join the family in doing so. Lee’s favourite colour was blue/navy so if you would like to please wear this colour, or incorporate it in your outfit, in Lee’s memory.

For those who would like to pay their respects but are unable to attend the funeral, the funeral procession will be passing by and spending a few moments outside the butcher shop to honour Lee. So if you wish to please join us during this special moment, we will post details of the timings of this once they are known.

Thank you again for the cards, flowers and heartfelt tributes to Lee. Our whole family are deeply touched by the outpouring of love❤️

With love Bridget, Lily and Zac 💕

Soundwell mourns a local legend 💙

The Soundwell community is heartbroken following the passing of Lee Tucker, the ever-smiling face behind the counter at DG & L Tucker's butchers. Having dedicated his life to the shop his father opened in 1954, Lee was much more than a local tradesman; he was a cherished friend to everyone who walked through the doors.

Lee peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. His loved ones have paid a beautiful tribute to the man who meant the world to them, describing him as their "whole life" and sharing that his boundless kindness has left an irreplaceable void.

The outpouring of love from loyal customers has been deeply moving, with hundreds sharing fond memories of his warm banter, genuine care, and the secret drawer of sweets he kept just to make children smile. It is clear his daily presence will be sorely missed by generations of Bristol families who have relied on his shop for decades.

A celebration of Lee's life will take place at 11:30 am on Saturday, August 1, at Westerleigh Crematorium, with attendees warmly invited to wear his favourite colour, blue or navy. The shop will remain closed this week as the family grieves, but they plan to reopen soon to proudly continue the remarkable legacy built by Lee and his late father, Doug.

Whilst our family were going through the most difficult period of our lives many of you would have seen that the shop was sadly vandalised - with both graffiti and tampering of the locks. We were really upset by this but had other things to focus on so rectifying this would have to wait until a later date. Only a few days later I received a message from one of our wonderful customers to say that, along with a few others, they had arranged for the graffiti to be removed. As a family we were taken back by this true act of kindness, this really highlighted the true spirit of humanity. We are beyond grateful to the customers and people involved in making this possible, this demonstrates the power of our amazing community. From the bottom of our hearts we wanted to take this opportunity to thank those involved in arranging this - please make yourself known in the comments Arnie, Steve, Andy, Roxanne and Zoe! Hopefully we will be able repay this kindness when somebody else is in a time of need. We are beyond proud to be a part of this community full of wonderful people🥹❤️

P.S. We need to know what you used to clean the shutters they look brand new!

Love from the Tucker family (Bridget, Lily and Zac) 💕
