Sims Hill Shared Harvest

Sims Hill Shared Harvest Member-owned Community Supported Agriculture project in North Bristol What is a CSA? This may include subsidized membership for members on low incomes.

A CSA is a popular farming model where the members come together and invest in the running of the farm and receive a share of the Harvest, as opposed to being customers who pay for specific products. The budget for the farm and what members contribute is negotiated, seeking to establish a fair and transparent deal for all concerned. There are many CSAs now running in the USA and the UK which are b

ased on the model of the grower owning and managing the land and business. We are hoping to be one of the first CSAs where the project will be owned and run by its members on an equal basis with the growers. We are exploring the potential legal and organisational methods to allow this to happen. The site has been worked as pasture for the last 30 years, but before that was just one of the many thriving market gardens that supplied food for the city. Sims Hill Shared Harvest is determined to help bring this land back into active food production. The site:

A fresh start to the year! 🌱 Our growers kicked off 2026 at the Oxford Real Farming Conference, returning with a harvest of inspiration to grow our mission.
This month, we’re sharing a bittersweet goodbye to Jo. She’s moving on to focus her energy on the vital Basic Income for Farmers campaign. We wish Jo all the best in pursuing her mission—sowing the seeds of stability for all farmers! 🌾
On a high note, we give a big, warm welcome to Petra! Petra was one of the pioneers when we started the three co-growers model. We celebrate her return—and her birthday—with a homemade salmon cake by Sarah!

Join our AGM!
We’d also hope to see a lot of you at this year’s AGM, which will take place on 5th March at Gasworks Studio, 27 Narroways Rd, Bristol BS2 9XB from 7-9pm.

Volunteer Day: Flyer for Sims

Throughout the summer, we run monthly volunteer sessions. You can now find them on Eventbrite. They are always a great moment to connect with each other and enjoy a group task, getting something done together which would be a mammoth mission if one person tackled it on their own.

At Sims we set a budget every year, and this year we have made ourselves a target of getting ten new full share members. The aim is to bring ourselves up to 110 full share equivalents. This will allow us to run the farm sustainably, ensuring we have enough to spend on things like fertilising our soil using a mixture of compost and green manures, and paying our delivery driver a fair wage.

If you are at a loss and fancy getting out and about for the day, we will be holding a volunteer flyering session! Exciting. It will be on Sunday 1st Feb at 10.30am. we will start outside better food and wander round for an hour or so, leafleting houses surrounding the local pick up points.

As the year opens, one cannot help looking further afield at the world and wondering where on earth to start. Sims is a reminder of the magic that happens when we act collectively, say no to big money and power, and create our own places for people and vegetables to flourish. Our thoughts are with those who continue to fight against these rights being repressed, and those surviving under fascist, oppressive, violent systems.
