We've done a few posts about grain-based salads recently, so thought we'd share some of our top grains to use:

🌾 Short brown rice - our favourite for Asian-inspired salads. Great with peanut-based or ginger-soy dressings.

🌾 Emmer / Farro - works well with Autumnal flavours like roasted squash, apple, kale and walnuts.

🌾 Bulgur wheat - great for Mediterranean-style salads with lots of fresh herbs, lemon or pomegranate molasses.

These kinds of salads have been keeping us going over the summer, and will transition perfectly into early Autumn as well.

1) Orzo pasta with tomatoes, chickpeas and olives
2) Buckwheat with broccoli, rocket and tahini dressing
3) Short brown rice with black beans, sweetcorn and bell peppers

Why We Care About Plastic Pollution: Hana

We asked everyone who works at Zero Green how they first became aware of plastic pollution. Hana said:

"Learning about global warming in geography over and over again throughout secondary school is what made me really concerned about the planet first, especially since I’m only 17 and have my whole life ahead of me. I don’t want to have to grow up in a sad, plastic ridden, lifeless environment, and without action it’ll only get worse!"

Why We Care About Plastic Pollution: Ollie

We asked everyone who works at Zero Green how they first became aware of plastic pollution. Ollie said:

"It was the gradual awareness over the nineties to tens which shocked me - knowing that plastic bags in the sea was threatening wildlife, and nothing was done. Then the realisation that everything came packaged in single-use plastic, for the convenience of the supermarkets. And now microplastics are in our blood and bodies! Well done, us. It’s all so destructive."

Every bag, bottle or jar you refill reduces the demands for plastic packaging. Together, we can protect our planet 🤝🌎

Why We Care About Plastic Pollution: Anwen 

We asked everyone who works at Zero Green how they first became aware of plastic pollution. Anwen said:

"I remember learning about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an area in the North Pacific Ocean. Due to the movement of water, plastic pollution from the land converges at this location. The Patch covers roughly 1.6 million square kilometers. The scale of pollution really highlighted to me how long-lasting plastic is, and how urgently we need to change the way we consume."

Why We Care About Plastic Pollution: Rob

We asked everyone who works at Zero Green how they first became aware of plastic pollution. Rob said:

"When I was a teenager, I found a plastic b**r cup which someone had thrown out of their car without a second thought. Inside the cup was a family of field voles. Sadly, only one was still alive. It made me realise that if just one plastic cup can have such an impact, so many other animals must be needlessly dying."
