We found this gem in Old Hersonissos last week when we were in Crete. Taverna 1930 sits just off the main square which means it is quieter, more local and a bit cheaper too. Family owned, lemon trees overhead and a lovely slow feeling that makes you want to stay all night.

We ordered a proper spread and every plate was spot on

👉 Grilled octopus
👉 Fried sardines
👉 Veal in lemon sauce
👉 Whole grilled dorado
👉 Saganaki
👉 Santorini fava with crusty bread

All of that plus apple juice and a carafe of house white came to £69 including tip which felt like a total win. The staff were lovely and made any fuss of our 4 our old which was nice. We even taught them a few Welsh phrases in return for some Greek!

It was £12 each way for a taxi from Analipsi and only about ten minutes so very easy to get to. Had a little wander afterwards. Not loads there but what is there is lovely. Picked up some local olive oil then headed back to the hotel feeling very content and very well fed.

Worth a visit if you are nearby. Go in the evening for food and the sunset. ❤️

Typing this from a sweaty, over crowded airport but wow, what a finale of a supper we had tonight in Analipsi before the long slog home.

Tiny dolmades served warm, saganaki prawns (yes we pretty much licked the bowl clean) with garlic bread. Gyros for mains; washed down with ice cold mythos for us, apple juice for the boy.

Pudding was a sensational sunset. 💯 🌅 🇬🇷

If you’ve seen my stories, you’ll know we’re in Crete. Last day today 😔

The food has been excellent from start to finish, even at the hotel (more on that another time) and it’s got me thinking. I swear we overdo it in the UK, heavy meals with all the cheese, gravy, heavy sauces and dressings piled on like standard.

But yesterday, on a little boat trip, lunch was so simple, so delicious. It was just a juicy pork chop off the BBQ, tomato salad, and the freshest creamiest feta I’ve ever eaten.

At that moment, I felt like I was eating the best meal of my life. No notes. 💯

What a spot! 🇮🇹

I was down in Brighton last week for work with and we managed to grab dinner one night at the institution that is . This family run Italian restaurant is HUGE and was busy even early doors on a Wednesday!

Between us, we had two pasta dishes, olives, two drinks and a sharing bread platter and the bill came to £69 including tip which felt pretty reasonable!

Located right in the heart of The Lanes, it’s such a great shout for a relaxed, classic Italian dinner and I would definitely make a return visit.

Here’s what we ate and drank:

👉 Peach Bellini
👉 Mimosa
👉 Green olives
👉 Pizza slices with arrabiata sauce (surprisingly spicy!)
👉 Pasticciati (rigatoni with a creamy bolognese sauce)
👉 Carbonara (the richest, cheesiest rigatoni carbonara of my life!).

Such a fun midweek find which very nearly left us in a carb coma. Thankfully the walk along the seafront and back to the hotel helped! 😂

A nice little Monday night pasta dish for you. Made this tonight and immediately had to write it down to share. Simplicity is sometimes all you need. 🍝 ❤️

Ingredients (serves 2)
👉 200g linguine
👉 200g cherry or baby plum tomatoes, halved
👉 1/2 tin tomatoes
👉 2–3 garlic cloves, crushed
👉 Tsp mixed herbs
👉 6 rashers of smoked bacon bacon cut into small bite size pieces
👉 40g grated cheese
👉 4 large fresh basil leaves, ripped
👉 Drizzle of good quality olive oil

Method:
1️⃣ Cook linguine until al dente.
2️⃣ Fry bacon until crisping up and turning golden.
3️⃣ Add garlic + cherry tomatoes → soften.
4️⃣ Pour in ½ tin tomatoes + herbs + pepper.
5️⃣ Toss in linguine + a drizzle of good olive oil.
6️⃣ Top with grated cheese.
7️⃣ Finish with the fresh basil and a crack of black pepper.

Serve and enjoy! Just as we did. 😀

Oh look, another Cardiff food blogger writing about .ramenbar. How predictable. 😴

We visited on Saturday and honestly, Cardiff was a bit of a let‑down after loving the Bristol branch. Bigger space, less charm, and our table at the back had zero atmosphere. The Hiraski chicken noodle salad was really bland (despite offering great mouthfeel - the cold noodles were perfect for the weather) but needed several dollops of chilli oil and soy sauce to season.

We shared crispy squid and karaage chicken which were both nice, although the batter on the chicken felt and tasted quite floury, like it hadn’t fried at temperature perhaps.

The kids’ bento wasn’t great either; completely plain noodles stuck together and unseasoned veg. Our son barely touched it although he did eat the chicken an egg, plus some soup. Honestly, Wagamama’s kids’ chicken ramen was a massive hit a few weeks ago, so this felt like a step backwards.

The Tonkotsu ramen was nice enough, but Bristol still does it better imho. So, for decent noodles in Cardiff, I’d stick to Matsudai or Hatsu Udon. 🍜

I bloody love a food hall, a deli and farmers shops. So in Morganstown, just outside Cardiff is heaven to me. The garden centre is great, the aquatics shop is our son’s fave place to gawp at the fish, but for me, it’s all about the food hall.

This time we had lunch in the cafe and we were pleasantly surprised! I had a loaded salad bowl (£6.95) with a chicken skewer (£3) and the kids lunch bag was brilliant value at £6.95 with loads of stuff inside - more than he could eat in one go. Proper homemade ham sandwiches, jelly, strawberry milk, raisins, crisps, babybel. We thought that was great value.

My salad was delicious - a mix of herby orzo with feta, mixed beans and a kind of corn succotash. You can choose three salads from the days selection and everything is freshly made.

And you better believe I left with a bag full of goodies! Including, Perl Las and crackers plus a selection of crisps, hot sauce and curry cooking sauce which I’ve wanted to try for a while! 🧡

We left a little poorer but happy for it! 💸

It’s been a while since my last visit to so this weekend’s haul was a good one. Stocked up on a few bits we needed and then spent the rest on my fave things - noodles and snacks.

Particularly excited to try the ‘holey’ topokki with jajang as I’ve really craved Jajangmyeon recently!
