4.17million meals worth of good food. That’s how much we shared with local communities in a year.

That’s something to celebrate. But what really inspires us is hearing the stories of how the food we share makes a difference to the lives of people from Cornwall to Gloucestershire; how it brings communities together, builds resilience and helps fight the injustice of who gets to afford a healthy diet.

We’re proud to share just some of these stories in our 2026 Impact Report. Inspirational stories of local people creating lasting social change.

"It's so important kids have something good to eat during the day. I've seen camps in other places we've worked where lunch tends to be a can of Dr Pepper and some crisps or something.

"FareShare South West giving us some different foods to try; different yoghurts, drinks, healthy options, is really important for them."

This is what Steve, Bath City FC Foundation head coach told us when we visited one of their holiday camps.

Making a summer full of fun, fresh air, football and food a reality for children across Bath, the camps are part of the city's holiday activity and food (HAF) programme for children who receive free school meals during term time. They are also open to paying families, with an additional ten spaces reserved for those who can't afford to pay but are not entitled to free school meals.

We supported this project, and others like it across Bristol and Bath, by providing nutritious food to fuel children through the day. Food that is enjoyed by children, appreciated by parents and helps level the playing field.

CEO Geoff says the camps have been running for seven years now, with demand increasing each year. Through partnering with FareShare South West, projects can stretch funding further by tapping into our surplus redistribution network.

As we come to the end of what will have felt like a long summer holiday for many, we want to say a huge thank you to all who made a difference to young lives this summer. ☀️💚

What would motivate you to volunteer?

Our wonderful volunteers are the backbone of FareShare South West and we really couldn't do our work without them!

We love trying creative ways to make good use of surplus food. It was fitting therefore that some of our wonderful Plymouth volunteers enjoyed a fermenting workshop with our Volunteer Manager, Georgie.

This was a chance to get together socially, try something new and preserve some of our fresh veg in a fun and delicious way.

Here’s a mini step by step guide to fermenting:
1. Chop veg (we used carrots, red peppers, radishes and celeriac) into small pieces
2. Pack into a clean jar with a filtered water, salt, garlic, ginger and chilli brine
3. Seal jars ready and leave in a cool, dark place for about a week
4. Open occasionally to check taste and let any excess gas out
5. Store in the fridge and eat within 4 weeks. The flavour should continue to develop over time

At the workshop, our volunteer Jane said: “It will make me try something and eat something new.”

Meet one of the newest additions to our team: Truck Berry.

Our new 7.5 tonne refrigerated truck may be more bread roll than rock ‘n’ roll, but it’s set to make a big impact across our region.

Pictured here with driver Mark and two of our wonderful volunteers, the truck has officially been named following a vote by staff and volunteers. This saw the controversial Jam First, Hugh Lorry and Nacho Average Truck all narrowly miss out.

Funded by Defra’s Tackling Food Surplus at the Farm Gate scheme, Truck Berry is based at our Plymouth Hub. It will enable FareShare South West to reach more local growers and suppliers and collect more good food that might otherwise go to waste, turning an environmental problem into lasting social good.

Our CEO Lucy explains: "Devon and Cornwall are some of the UK's most deprived areas when it comes to accessing healthy food, while high-quality produce is grown right here.

“Thanks to Defra's Tackling Food Surplus at the Farm Gate programme, this truck will make it possible for us to support both farmers and people experiencing food insecurity, building sustainable access to affordable, locally produced food."

It's International Youth Day and a perfect opportunity to shine a light on the incredible people enrolled on our FareChance programme, past and present.

Our unique employability programme is designed by and for young people in Bristol. People who, for whatever reason, have faced barriers to work, education or training. People who have come into our south Bristol Hub and gone on to shine, to realise their potential and to seize their next opportunity or a foot in the door.

People like *Andy, who has gone on to excel in his chosen field of construction: "I learnt a lot of skills, a lot of values in life, as well as a better mindset for myself on FareChance.

“It's an amazing group to be around. Whatever it is you need help with, they'll do their best to help. They offer as much support as they possibly can. And it's just great seeing how you can give back to a community. You feel appreciated when you're helping a lot of people doing this kind of work.”
