Would you pay more for a chicken that lived twice as long?

Our chickens are grown for around 12 weeks, rather than the 5–7 weeks typical of conventional indoor broiler production.

That extra time matters.

It gives them time to grow at a slower pace, develop naturally, move around, forage and spend their days outside.

We know our chicken costs more. But you’re not simply paying for more meat — you’re paying for a different way of farming.

So… would you pay more for a chicken that had twice as long to live?

Looking for something chill to do this weekend?
have their orchards open to all, come on down for a mooch around the orchards and to sample some delicious juice and cider, a freshly baked snack from , fresh eggs available (from us!) and have some handsome birds on show. Doggies welcome.

The chicken industry doesn’t want you to compare this, but this is what happens when you slow grow your chickens, naturally. We rear on pasture, slowly. For real flavour that you can’t compare to industrialised chicken. You won’t believe it until you try it for yourself!

Crispy and dry, it sounds like autumn leaves crunching underfoot, but it’s really just dead grass. A diverse herbal lay will bring some resilience, but in this drought it’s not enough. Nature is amazing, and we are hoping it will bounce back to life (above and beneath ground), at the first sign of some proper moisture. Fingers crossed those microbes are still alive 🤞🪱

DREAMING of green grass 💚 We are in desperate need of rainfall. In a time where the we have the biggest opportunity to grow grass and capture carbon in our soils, we have nothing growing because it is much too dry. Nevertheless, our chickens are still moved daily albeit to a slightly browner patch of grass than captured here, earlier this year.

We can be thankful for our multigenerational, mature hedgerows to provide some shade in this heat, but our animals need more shade and shelter in this weather. We can’t wait to get some trees in the ground later this year. What trees should we plant?
