Grading the charcoal..
Here’s us unloading from the kiln onto our grader, made with a 1” mesh. The lump wood is separated from the fines and chucked into 10kg sacks which are loaded up onto a trailer or pickup for extraction. We bag it up later or, better yet, sell the sacks.
The wood that didn’t properly convert- burnt ends or brunts- are chucked side and used to light the next kiln.

Is a filthy job and breathing the dust is no fun but satisfying work making quality British bbq charcoal in a proper Devon working woodland.
