☀️ Sunbathing alpacas! 🦙

Alpacas love a bit of sunshine and this summer we’ve seen plenty of sunbathing sessions at Yew Tree! 😎🌿

They’re just as happy relaxing in the shade, but some are definitely sun worshippers! And no, we don’t put Factor 50 on them… 😂 Although our white-fleeced alpacas can occasionally get a little sunburnt if they’ve been recently sheared.

🌕 And with the eclipse tonight, we wonder if our sun-loving boys and girls will be looking up at the sky for a change!

🦙☀️ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲!

We had a fantastic time on our 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐚 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐤 last weekend. With glorious sunshine and soaring temperatures, it was certainly a lovely summer day! ☀️

Thankfully, our boys took the heat completely in their stride, and all our guests did an amazing job too.

Our beautiful new route took us through cool woodland, along peaceful tracks, across open fields with stunning views and through grassy meadows – a truly spectacular setting for an alpaca trek. We really couldn't have asked for a better location.

A huge thank you to 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭, the landowner, for so kindly allowing us to explore her wonderful countryside. Being almost entirely on private land meant we could simply relax and enjoy the walk without the usual distractions of busy paths or dogs.

After a well-earned refreshment stop, the boys were rewarded with their favourite treat – plenty of crunchy carrots! 🥕🦙

Back at Yew Tree, everyone rounded off the afternoon with a delicious afternoon tea, sparkling drinks and a special 10th anniversary keepsake to remember the day.

𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐚 & 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐞 𝐠𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 🦙🥰

We have just said goodbye to our black duo mother and daughter Carla & Georgie.

They have gone to join Bonny who was looking for new friends. Very sadly Bonny lost her only herd mate Annie (a very good age of 21yrs) later on the same day the girls arrived.

We wish the girls well, at their fantastic new home just outside Hertford.

If you are interested in rehoming some alpacas, we have a lovely selection of girls looking for new homes 🥰

𝐍𝐨 𝐓𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐲 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞!

Shearing at Yew Tree is now finished for another year, and all our girls are feeling much happier after shedding their thick woolly coats. They certainly look a lot slimmer now and have definitely lost their teddy bear look! 😄

Alpacas are sheared once a year for their health and wellbeing, helping them stay cool through the warmer months. Their fleece is also a wonderful natural resource, with our heaviest fleeces weighing an impressive 𝟓½𝐤𝐠 this year.

Nothing goes to waste at Yew Tree! Our fleece is transformed into beautifully soft 𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐚 𝐲𝐚𝐫𝐧, cosy 𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐚 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬, and even 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐥. Every spring, blue t**s, great t**s and chaffinches help themselves to the soft fibres to line their nests – a perfect example of nature recycling at its best.
