So , the very last night of Da Kitchen Bakery and boy what a night 🥹. A bit of a long but final post !
Steve and I were honoured by so many folk coming out to say their farewells to us at Burravoe Public Hall, and surrounded by friends and neighbours from our 14 and a half years here. Many a good yarn was had with plenty of memories recalled too with much fun.
Seeing the next generation of toddlers was so heartwarming , Odie and Smith grandchildren now having funs running up and doon da Peerie Hall.
Brilliant music through the night from Eric Williamson on accordion 🪗 Robert Goodlad on bass🎸 ably accompanied by Elizabeth Mann on the 🎹.
Our surprise gifts from the community of a super painting of Yell was just perfect along with a stunning piece of Unst Glansin Glass. So special was the personalised autograph book that everyone signed, sending us away with warm and happy messages of love, memories and friendship.
However, the highlight had to be the spontaneous appearance of the new singing group the Burravoe Belles - made up of the wives of Burravoe and South Yell. Around 25 wives climbed the peerie stage and sweetly belted out a specially written song all about us and our little bakery. It really touched us to see and hear this - as those present would have seen, there were plenty of happy tears shed 🥹🥹. Working alongside many of these fine women , who came to use the kitchen alongside us for SWI nights, Hall suppers and Up Helly Aa events. Thank you SWI ladies for our lovely gift too ❤️🎁
Finally to Laurence Odie ( Jennifer ) and the Burravoe Public Hall committee who receive our greatest thanks for their belief in our small business. We know that not everyone on the committee agreed to them hiring out the hall kitchen to our bakery, but with the passing of time and the majority support, this grew and continued for 14 years, benefitting not just us, but the hall financially, especially through the lean times of COVID when we carried on in our little 'bubble' . Thanks to all those brilliant hardworking folk who made our bakery what it was as we grew and expanded, especially the youngsters who were SO committed to their first jobs.
So, that's us saying farewell now. We leave Shetland soon and thank everyone that gave us such a brilliant send off, giving us yet more happy memories to take on our way xx
