Last week in the Telegraph, Burton Upon Trent was named as one of England’s top 10 pub towns. A great write up including our taproom Burton Bridge Inn and the iconic The Elms, The Coopers Tavern Devonshire Arms (which are pictured) but there are many more!

It isn’t long until the next Burton Ale Trail which is the 4th-7th June and the best time to check out so many incredible Burton pubs!

Burton-upon-Trent has joined a growing roster of places bidding to be the UK's first town of culture, a title that comes with a £3m award to celebrate it.

New beer release!

Welcome to the bar 1930s London Milk Stout!

A 5.0% easy drinking, luxurious and smooth heritage stout with notes of milk chocolate and toasted hazelnut with a warm toasty finish this one is sure to warm you up on these cold winter nights.

This beer is heavily based upon a heritage London/ Burton upon Trent brewery milk stout from the 1930s.

✨Fun fact✨

In 1912, there was legal debate over what constitutes a milk stout and the lactose was then measured in pounds (lbs) per barrel which made it very interesting when converting into modern day measurements to recreate this stout.

We are pretty blown away to learn that our head brewer, Al Wall, has been nominated for brewer of the year by the The British Guild of Beer Writers which is sponsored by Society of Independent Brewers - SIBA.
There are some incredible brewers in the list, well done to all nominees!

It’s actually the second time Al was nominated for brewer of the year in 2025, as he was recently by the The Brewers Journal up against some extremely talented brewers in their awards too!

We are so proud of our team and what has been achieved in the last year.

Also great to see some light shining on brewing in Burton 💪

🍺 Introducing X Porter - A Beer 136 Years in the Making

We’re proud to unveil the latest addition to the Heritage Brewing Co. family: X Porter at 4.6% is a revival of a true Burton cask classic.

This beer is steeped in history. Its roots trace back to James Porter, one of Burton’s lesser-known but deeply influential brewers. Porter purchased his Dale Street brewery around 1879, running it with his sons under the name James Porter & Sons. Records show that this very recipe was brewed as early as 1889, likely poured at Porter’s own pub, The Millwright Arms on New Street which we believe is where you can find Bar XV today.

After the Dale Street brewery’s closure, the Porter family’s brewing legacy lived on - eventually helping shape one of Britain’s most iconic beers, Newcastle Brown Ale, in 1927.

Now, over a century later, we’ve brought James H. Porter’s original recipe back to life. Expertly reimagined by our brewers, X Porter is a smooth, rich brown ale with complex malt aromas, a hint of liquorice and smokiness, and an easy-drinking finish that honours the craftsmanship of Burton’s past.
