The Agtron measures roast colour — whole bean and ground — so we know exactly how far the heat has gone through the bean.
Cupping catches everything else: flavour, aroma, mouthfeel and defects.
Result - fabulous coffee !

Another busy day at the roaster.
For all you coffee loving av geeks out there - the blue line on the chart shows the Rate of Rise ( the beans getting hotter as they roast ) The aim is to have a steadily decreasing rate of change so the blue line should steadily descend . This is achieved by controlling speed , heat , airflow and power .
It’s very similar to the glide slope of an ILS in many ways ( an aircraft making an approach to land )- smooth controlled descent , small changes to keep stabilized and when the engine stops it all goes totally pear shaped 😵‍💫😜

Deacons Bank is one of those businesses. Leo and the team have had a tough time recently, and if you know, you know. But what strikes me most is how they've handled it — with class, resilience, and their heads held high.
